Well id ecided to pick up my very realy mini that had been converyted into a race car by richard longman. I got it homw in a sad state and decided to empty it out and take all the fibreglass doors etc out and the fibregalss roof has got a bit sad so i had a hunt thru the spiders etc and found a number tag on the cross member inside the car.
A-A2S7 43986 i will apply to heratige to figure out the history of the car and take it form there but as far as i can see its a 1960 model does anyonehave a bit more info they could shed on it.
I knwo my other MK1 is a 1961 april morris.

so this one is even earlier but has been totally modified to become a race car and the modifications have not finished yet, I spoke to a mate of mine today and we are really happy to modify it even more with a modern roll cage instead of exhust tubing from the 60's.

its just a black lump about now as i need a new fibre glass nose for it soon.
Last owner stuck a clubman fibreglass one on and ruined the look straight away.
Ill see if i can take some once i have got it upstairs at my workshop.

Jai, Early Mini shells were "THE THING" for racecars, I believe they were lighter.

Does it have the full floorpan with separate inner sills, rather than the other way round? funny seat brackets on the crossmember?

I will find out my books to confirm the number later!

I have had the car for a few years now but what happened was a guy locally had bought it and whad stripped the entire car down sodl the 1293 longman motor n subframe with disks etc for $1000 so i managed to grab what was left (not a lot) It had a number plate inside the door but that was all i had to go on i did a lot of snooping and found the guy who put the firbreglass clubman nose on it and he explained to me that He bought it of a guy who bought it form richard longman who raced it in the 70's in barbados, south africa, australia and new zealand. it got banned from racing soon after due to it being too light and was then entered into hill climbs etc. The roof has been replace with a fibregalss roof and the top of the window frame has a twist in in caused by the last owner rolling it on a hill climb end for end.
I bought the car knowing something about early cars but it had got dry stored for a year or so and then the old man decided that he wanted his hay shed back so it got a tarp put on it and left outside for 3 years. well it has finally come home for me to get some form of work done on it.
how much and when is a nother story due to funds being in the negative nature all the time. but i will be getting it ready to drag race at the start of the october season.

as for the floor pan yes its unusual and the seat brackets are welded to the cross member, the front windscreen is not recessed and the early mk1's were 40kgs lighter then the later ones.
the body has been modified for the era and it has been totally deseamed it ran on a rear swing arm set up (i have that) and i have also got the spare front subframe (fully welded). the roll cage is totally ilegal now and willneed to be replaced so it can go in modern day events.
I suppose its a matter of panel work (which is rot free) spray painting it and then getting all the bits i have out of storage to out it back together.

Wow, great history Jai! I Ieft an early car like that in the UK cause I could only ship 2! it too had a racing history, but not by anyone as esteemed as RL !

It ended up as a Mini se7en racer and I sold it to a guy who carried on running it for a few years, then bought an S to restore.

I beleive it is still in his shed!

Thanks
for sharing!!
