Post subject: | Mini Matic Heater Box |
Hi all Just wondering how many other Mini-Matic owners have a heater box installed. ![]() My 1969 Mini-Matic didnt have one when I received the car, but I was advised it should have one for extra water cooling. All of the pictures and info I have have seen and read, do not mention the heater box. Does it actually provide increased water cooling or is it just to blow warm air into the car? - Andrew |

Mine was there when I got it...no ducting to provide warm air though, just plumbed into the cooling system. Apparently they are required for adequate cooling - there are warnings in the Leyland manual against running without one (or suffer the consequences ![]() Many people put them in non-matics simply to provide extra cooling but for Matics they are mandatory, at least with the stock setup... |

Yes the workshop manuals say they are a mandatory part of the MiniMatic cooling system. They are an `air mixing' type heater and there is NO water tap, so they act as an auxiliary radiator. I still have one in mine (3/1970) it helps keep the big 1360 cool now. ![]() It's ducted into the car- there is a rudimentary flap under RH side of parcel tray that gives you choice of air to floor, or demist (RH vent only). I've cut the ducting and fitted a 3" Attwood bilge blower from www.biasboating.com.au This gives me some warm air sitting in traffic. Our other Mini (1293) is about to get one too. Note these heaters were also an option on Mini Deluxe etc back then. |

Thanks for the info... Ill make sure I fit it on. It sounded like a rare item when I asked about it at the mini parts shop. |

no room for this in the engine bay of our matic, however we did rip the heater core out of a clubbie heater and plumb it in, it sits right in the front behind the grill, lower left hand side and keeps the car at a good temp. |
