Been waiting for the Winter Olympics to start to see if there would be any famous landmarks from the italian job visible when they do thier usual infomercials about the host city.

Tonight was the first night and they crossed to the ice skating and woudnt you know it, the ice skating arena is the building were the minis drive on the roof during the movie.

I was hoping for a trio to bust in during the ferrari burnout at the opening ceremony.. :)

i must admit... that burnout was fully sick... :D

They had an olympic city show yesterday and apparently the Italian Job is the only thing of merit in the last century or so they can talk about . They showed the Fiat factory , only to then show the movie scenes . Then what's now the ice skating rink , again only to show the mini's . It's a wonder they didn't feature in the opening ceremony .

I did notice that in the opening ceremony they thanked the family that owned fiat which was the same family that shut down the streets with a word to the police for the making of the italian job movie. Always willing to help and still around BMC long gone.

what made me laugh was the fact that they had traffic problems during the lead-up (not quite the same traffic problems in the movie though).

I thought this topic would mention yesterday's Top Gear episode on BBC2 (but that was in Norway). I'm sorry if you can't receive that program in Australia but it was superb ! The Top Gear team hit Norway and have a go at Olympic events, but with cars. In a world first, they fire a rocket powered Mini off a ski jump. Then Jeremy and James tackle the Biathlon with the latest 4x4s, Richard stages a game of car ice hockey, and the new Jaguar XK races a speed skater.

Here it is allready. Too bad you don't see the preparations on it, where for instance the Top Gear guys try to spray the "route" onto the jump, but they slide down time after time.
