I've got a set of door hinges which I've stripped the paint off and they're ready to be repainted.. What is the best way to stop them rusting in the joints between the two sides of the hinge. If I paint there it'll just rub off and eventually rust won't it? |

Every time you open and close the door the two surfaces rub together making it difficult for any rust to build up. I guess you could grease it or spray some WD40. If you haven't already I'd suggest putting new bushes and pins in the hinges while you've got em off. They're cheap, easy to do while there off the car. I did the drivers side on my clubman as the door had dropped and was difficult to open and close, door now closes like it was new! ![]() |

How easy iS it to replace the bushes. Do i need to drill them out or do the bushes just slide in ? Tim |

The bushes just push out. If you look closely the bush sits a little lower in the hinge. I used a bolt that was slightly bigger in diameter than the pin and hammered it out, it came out quite easily. I carefully tapped in the new one which was tightish fit but still went in quite easily. Don't forget to get new hinge gaskets to they are also very cheap and help stop rusting. |

i think the hinges are made out of some metal that doesnt rust, its just everything around them rusts, like the hinge pin |

Yes Spaceboy I think you're right, they appeared to be cast. Better be careful when tapping in the pin! I used a piece of wood to rest the hinge on while I hammered the pin in. ![]() |

The hinges on my car have rust all through them.. Especially in the joints and underneith.. The ones I'm about to paint are good cond though, they don't need repinning. |
