Post subject: | Oil filter part number |
I gotta drop in to repco on the way home and grab a new oil filter, does anyone have the part number for the oil filter elements (not the spin on type). I had a search, but couldn't find what I wanted. I remember there were two, one was bigger than the other (R2200P??) I got the smaller one. |

The R2200P is the bigger one and it will fit most Australian Minis like the Deluxe, K, Clubman, etc. and also the Morris 1100 and 1100S it was used on all the local production up till they started fitting the spin on. The whole filter assembly was made by Ryco and you will see Ryco cast onto the top of the filter head. They started fitting them in 1965 The R2180P is the smaller one has the British made filter assembly and it was fitted to the mini 850 and some others. They stopped fitting them in 1965. Hmmm that's odd, it's fitted to my MkII mini..... Did you mean that by stopping fitting them in 65, that was locally or in the UK as well? must be time to convert to spin on, it's pretty difficult to get them off the shelf these days. I had a look at RycoFilters (I tried Ryco in google earlier and got nowhere), they bring up R2053P for the coopers and R2180P for the rest. I guess R2053 must be those felt filters they use to put in. Morris minors apparently used the the 2053's as well. |

Yeah the R2053P would be the felt filter. They stopped fitting the small filter in Australia in 65. They never fitted the big filter in the UK. |

My 1968 S has the small one, I don't think the Oz made one with bypass switch ever got put on an S? |

I'm thinking that as the engine was uk sourced, we got what they fitted. I did hear once that it was cos the felt filter did a better job of filtering than the paper. It's probably irrelevant now though with 40 years of filter paper research. |

i know it is irrelevant but here are a few spin on part numbers. z418 is the ryco one and v022 is the valvoline filter no. interestingly these filters are used on a lot of jap vehicles , incl suziki swift. so even if you have a gti conversion you can still ask for a mini oil filter. |

Yep they tell me that Toyota V6 is expendable.. designed to go 250,000Km, then throw away/recycle. Coke cans here we come... ![]() Dunno if they mean the car is throwaway too... |

![]() My late 68 build date 'S' has the OZ Puralator filter head with the bypass switch for the speedo warning light. It takes the R2053 filter. The original filter elements were R2053V which is the felt element. R2053P is the paper element. R2053V was also used on the Morris Minor 1000. Earlier Minors, Series 2 803cc A series engines, only had a bypass filter. Ryco don't appear to make the felt element any more but you can still get the felt elements but I think they may come from darkest China. Last one I bought had the wrong size sealing ring. This probably means they also fit something totally alien to Minis or they can't measure the diameter properly. As far as I know the reason for using the felt filter was that with the higher 'S' oil pressure there was a higher risk of the paper ones sometimes rupturing because of pressure drop across the filter element. Don't know if this is BS or not. That was the common knowledge or old wives tale? explanation at the time. Did the felt filter any better? Who knows. Hope this helps RonR |
