Post subject:  Bizzare hapenings with my Mini

Try and diagnose this one from my description.

Mini doesnt get out as much these days but a couple of weeks ago I dusted it off and went for a run through the hills, lots of winding stuff. After about an hour I noticed a really annoying squeeking noise from the front end in sync with the rotation of the wheels. Noise DID NOT change if I put my foot on the break, turned left / right or even shut off the motor. It was there all the time and sounded alot like the squeek when rubber runs on metel or other rubber. Got home checked the car couldnt find anything wrong.

THe night before Sylvania Mini run took it aorund the block no squeek. All day Saturday even in that heat and travelling up from Bulli - no squeek.

Yesterday went for a quick run up the coast around the winding roads and on the way back the squeek re appeared but this time I think I felt something break or move and now there is a definite problem somewhere in the front end. You cant feel anything through the wheels but around left hand corners with the left front uloaded its almost like the wheels is loose, it's making all sorts of banging noised yet when I go aver a bump it's not clunking like something is lose. when I jab the throttle in first you can hear something banging and if I put the car on full left lock the tyre is rubbing under the goard somehwre and its making som great noises.

Jacked up the car when I got homeaverything seems tight - It's got me beat.

Just a thought , check the tie bar that goes from the lower arm to the front of the subframe , check the rubbers are on either side of the mount and that the nut is tight on the front end . Also check the bolt where it attaches to the lower arm . Clutching at straws here without seeing it or hearing it though .

do you have centre caps on your front wheels? if so, take the wheel off and look at the hub nut...

check tie bar rods, ball joints and hub nut, If all looks good and no movement i would be looking at CV joint??

Check your pot joints and CVs. Jack up the car on stands and have a good look under there to sus out the problem. Recomment not driving it until you find the problem!
