Gday guys and gals...

First step of my engine rebuild. FIND the ENGINE.

i went to veiw a couple today.
- a 1275 (the red engine)which is looking over bored, and may need a sleeving.
- this has a gear box, one chipped tooth. also a spare gear box to fix this is included.
- 12G940 head with double valve springs.
- starter motor ..some other small things i think.

- next is 1100 engine. was running once. has been stored in shed for a while. unknown condition. all together still. NO head. would use my 12G295
-Has gear box also.
- Engine Obviously needs rebuild.(slight lip in bores)
-number on the side is something like 12A 497, couldnt see the actual Engine number

ALL of the above listed for 300 dollars..dont think the blocks are cracked. :?

Ive got some pics here of the different bits and numbers included.
Can anyone tell me what kind of engines they are or wat the numbers mean? decent stuff?

I can tell you at least it is a 1275 A+ motor(the ribbing in the block)

Thats about the extent of my expertise...

could be looks like the walls may be a little fine but if you are not going to build a higly stressed motor i think liners would be fine

so sleeves dont bring back its strength? just help it?
i guess i want to make a fast engine..but nothing too street hot..
would it survive? how much is a sleeve job roughly..anyone know?

Gearbox, 22G1128 i think is a remote, all synchro box out of Mini K or Cooper S mk2. Crankshaft, on the list I have it says 12G1505(no A), EN16 1.75" con rod journal, 1275 not Cooper S, so maybe a 1100S crank. Hope that helps.
(maybe the A after 12G1505 means it goes with the A+ block, not sure, someone else will know)

I was told the you will make more power with a sleeved motor, GR puts a step at the bottom of the block for added strength..i think price was around ~$25 a sleeve, but you need to pay for two bore jobs..one to fit the sleeves and the other to match the sleeves to your piston size.. + labour

some good info guys...thanks very much.

the sleeving sounds interesting!! :)
im not so sure about that gear box tho. i want a rod change, so that it can go back into my clubby...the gear box i have right now would go straight under this 1275 correct??

does anyone know if that crank looks as if it has grind left in it? how can i tell?

thanks for the speedy responses.

why do you want a rodchange over a remote?

Would my 1978 clubman S be able to take a remote gear box? would my gear stick join up in the end or wat??

which is better?? remote or rod? say if i wana make faster gear changes?

i have heared that the material they use to sleeve the blocks is actually quite
good and it is really no prob if you are gonna build a monster of a motor. from
what i heared it will take it.

Your Clubby S body will not take a remote box unless you modify where
the remote housing goes up to where the gear stick pops through the floor, but
in saying that i am sure it wouldnt be too hard to change this

yeah i didnt think it would be interchangeable.

Perhaps for 300 dollars three gear boxes, an 1100, a 1275 is a good deal?
think in the future i could sleeve that 1275 and go for a great engine.
jus not sure bout that crank...enough meat on it?

Yes, it is a far better material than the original casting..especially on A+ blocks which tend to be more porous.

A remote box is the better system. The gearchanges are quicker and more precise, and it double as an extra engine mount. Fitting one to a clubby is not hard either. A well build rodchange in fine though, i love mine. Compared to most other rodchanges though a remote is alot better. Just a matter of finding one..If you have a rodchange stick with it.
