You'll need a flywheel puller if it's still intact.
I know that coz I'm doing the same thing and was told I needed one.
It still hasn't arrived though, hopefully today.

Hey fellas, currently workin on a 1100 power plant. Wanting to know exactly what is needed/how to remove an engine block off a gearbox. is it simple enough? much advice needed. thanks |

Take the head off first, sit it on a bench upsidedown, undo the bolts like that, take the gearbox off the block instead of the other way around... |

I just lift the engine (head and all ) off the block using the engine lifter. That is after removing the clutch, flywheel, transfer casing and all the fiddly 7/16 nuts and bolts. Once all the nuts and bolts are out, with the powerplant just off the ground with the engine lifter, tap the gearbox with a soft hammer and it will separate. There are two dowels that you may have to drift out. DO NOT separate using a screw driver or similar because this will scratch the alloy and leave you with oil leaks. The reason that i have said all this is because everytime I have done it on a bench like previously suggested is that I have ended up with copious oil everywhere because everything is upside down. (and yes the sump was drained first) I certainly use the bench to re-assemble everything and the hydraulic engine lifter to lift it back down to the floor once its assembled. |

seriously, if you need to ask that question then i wouldn`t be doin the job Honestly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! & also , 68deluxe, why would you bother taking the head off? unless you`re going to overhaul something to do with the engine????? Please be carefull what you type to the "un-initiated" you will become the blame for their stuff ups & costs. AAHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.............................. |

Twista Miniman (Matt) is one of the most experienced mini people in Australia and he was actually acting in your interests. Yes everyone has to start somewhere and learn and if you find a manual somewhere, work with the manual as you pull it to pieces and take your time you will do okay. Its not hard and people here will help you as you need advice. The right equipment and the right tools are very important as is the need to work safely. Ask all the questions you feel you need to - weigh up the rsponses and compare it to common sense and what a good manual suggests. |

Thanks Mike, Yeah twista,,,there`s a huge "learning" curve" you`re about to make & if you`re serious, then i suggest you Phone /e-mai/ Talk to someone """AS-WELL""" as read the workshop manual as i`ve known many many many a person attempt this job (Via the net) & get so much conflicting advice from so many people that it just screws with them intensly & the jobs all stuffed up & has to be done again, or even worse, the job becomes even more problematic with a broken this & a stuffed that now too. get my drift.??? i`m more than happy to help you, but not here,,,PM me or e-mail me & i can talk you through it all,,,but it will be a long winded propersition to have it done "THE RIGHT WAY" & there really is only one """"RIGHT WAY"" to do this job all i see here & on many other forums all over the world that i type too, are people trying to help,yeah good... but!!!!!!!! mostly confuses the crapper out of the poor """newby mini mechanic"""" just wanting to learn, & i don`t mean any offence to anyone here, i think you all know that, just hate seeing people burn themselves & stuff things up. those stuff-ups can become very very expensive once you start mucking with drop gears & gear boxes etc I build & repair this sh!t in my sleep, can seriously build these things with my eyes closed....just don`t try that at home kids

thats fair enough, but ausmini isnt the only source i have, i have other people helping, but sometimes you have to do it yourself, im just trying to get my mini back on the road. Ive been told that theres about 2 days of work to get it done right and runnnign. i will pm mini man, pity ur not in melbourne |

may have looked like a blast, but wasn`t meant as one just trying to relay the fact that it`s not just a simple "nuts & bolts" job can be a very serious damage issue for the un-wary & a very time consuming & long winded process to describe over the net & with so many people with so many silly descriptions on how "they would do it",,,he would be so easilly confused & stuff the whole thing right up If he asked how to undo a wheel nut ???...then yeah, easy-peasy & i wouldn`t bother to help cause every man & his dog would have allready replied with their way of doing it, emotion can run away so easilly with some people. he`s PM`d me & we`r on our way to him having it done ok??? eveyone happy now??? SSSHHHHeeeeeshh, If you read my posts the way they`re written, you will see that it says what it`s meant to say & with no "Emotion" eveything i type is only to help stop the common stuff ups, & i have seen so many people stuff so much up over the net that it can be a bit annoying/frustrating to read ,,,feel like not even bothering to help if i`m gonna get smashed with this crap

some people are a little touchy  i think i cant see the post being rude in fact i have had similar respnses from people on different qs and i take them as looks like i need to get some real help with this
i think to really get your head around this need to see it done, read the books and talk to a pro but then the biggest learning curve i see it is in trial and error i teach people all day and thats what i notice you give them the info set the right environment and they still need the trial and error part ONLY thing here is the error might COST more $$$$ then its worth |

you got it Marc. it`s like me asking you here how to smash that backhand cross court from 12ft past the back of the court , at about 1 inch off the ground so the opponent can`t get it back???? what would & how long will be your reply??????? & do i cut the skin around the temple & ear first?... or the back of the head/neck area before i start drilling the skull bone?????????? OH! & what angle should i start the drill at??? will i need an angle grinder to part the skull properly? how many rags will i need to clean up all that brain fluid & blood,,,dam mums gonna be pissed at me for all this mess i`m making on the kitchen floor
