Ok, Makka has points, KEv has point we all go points.. ok ? Chill out....

and how about for a first step we all STOP posting irrelevant crap when someone is asking a serious question....

I just came across a post asking "how much for something"
and the response was obviously flippant and demeaning to the original poster ....

the correct response would have been as follows

see ? - NO response is better than a stupid one.....

If you really have something to say, plese add it and help grow the community....
If you just want to spam, fiddle sticks off ... I'm not interested in hearing your little "Back of school class" rantings and ramblings, and I'm pretty sure no-one else wants to either....

I can name half a dozen forums where that sort of "writing" is more than welcomed.. maybe take it to one of them ?

/Rant

Not having a go at you Makka, You dont have to tell me how hard Moderation is... I Modded the Hot4s forum for a year or so ....... bunch of useless 14 year old "I wanna put 30" Chromie Vault Krystals on Mummys Lancer" wannabes . . .

What boils my blood and will probably see me quitting this community too is the total disregard for other peoples posts, questions and needs....

yea, there are trolls here, and If i had my way we'd have a warning system like on Netrider - you get warned by a mod, if gets shown publicly as a Warning +1 on your avatar.... get two warnings and you're out. But thats not to be, what we need is self-moderating people who can actually stop themselves from posting irrelevant shite all the time....

I come on here to learn a bit, maybe even pass on a few bits of wisdom that I've learned in my 10ish years of owning and modifying this little beast ....but when i see responses like "Fwoor about $1287.34 incl. GST?" To a perfectly sensible (If a little naieve) question, i just crack the shits.....

That was me...ask a stupid question get a stupid answer, The answer was right in front of him, I took the time to point it out and answer his question, why can't i give him a bit of flack for missing it the first place? I'm all for everyone playing nice, and hey i've been nice..just look at my reply here:

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=223602

Not a stupid question..with a non stupid response.

This place just goes up and down..it was very peaceful for a while there and then all of a sudden we get outbursts..then it dies down again..

Maybe i'm the only one who laughed out loud at that  ..

You can't just have Questions & Answers. We need some character..

Can't please everyone, i'm happy either way..

That's the kind of stuff i love about this place and other forums, the quirky characters that pop up all over the place, i might not find some stuff funny, but who am i to say other's wont? It's a public place, read what you want, disregard what you don't? or not?

I don't like it any more than you men.

Hey makka, gunners Civil War? Or I think the original was from the movie Cool Hand Luke?

Back on topic, I don't know if I've mellowed, but reckon this place isn't so bad lately.

But yeah, the young guys (<19 say) are pretty annoying, and sometimes disrespectful. I don't remember being like that when I was that old.

And threads usually don't seem to stay on topic for more then two pages without someone carrying a big stick.

I think it would be good to have a rating system, so that you can give karma points to the posters you like. Use this in place of the post count. Newbies could see that someone like the MadMatt is highly reguarded (despite low post count), but the crap stirrers are not. So if a crap stirrer replied with something stupid like "Fwoor about $1287.34 incl. GST?" to their first post they would know to ignore like the rest of us do.

So instead of gaming (spamming) to get their post count up, they would have more incentive to make us like them by say not acting like crap stirrers.

But unless poeee is willing to maintain some php hacks I can't see it happening.

Sorry guys but this post really seems a bit unneccesary to me -

A) whats the point of complaining over fairly trivial matters in a separate post rather than just putting whoever you reckon is in the wrong in their place in the actual post?

B) do we really want to express whatever frustrations people might have with this forum in a potentialy endless series of off the topic posts on how things used to be better and now they are now gone forever.

C) this is the "mini chat" dont we have new rules about it?

I mean I come to this forum mostly for factual information and try not to post irrelevantly (I think my 1000 post count despite being here right from the start is proof enough) but obviously many others don't. Why shouldnt those people be entitled to have this place as a social meeting place (beyound the simple techical forum) if they choose to?

We can work together to make this place the best possible for the majority of mini owners but theres no point bagging people. People who are being mean or rude (especialy no new members) deffinately deserve to be flamed but lets not start John Harward style moralising and getting carried away flaming as if a joke or an insult on this forum are mortal wounds or have any significance or bearing on a person's real life. Its an internet forum for christs sake not a Freemason guild convention.

Statements like "the young guys (<19 say) are pretty annoying, and sometimes disrespectful. I don't remember being like that when I was that old" (Zizzle) (usualy means that youre getting old and are forgetting staff so can happily claim that back then water was wetter and politicians honest) do nothing to help this forum but just allienate people. Lets not forget btw how old the founder and the owner of this forum was when he started it (and not that old now either).

Makka youre a mod now but can you honestly say that out of your 7.5 thousand odd posts all are genuinely factual and purely mini related? I mean do you remember why makka's poolroom was started? Some of your own posts btw are also pretty sarcastic but youre a legend and people here like you and no one would flame you for irrelevant posts but why should we apply a different standard to the younger members?

And what about some members (like the doc and miniman for eg) who are pretty much the pillars of this forum. They have very high post counts and most of these helping other members but also many posts are purely social - should we stop them from posting too? Would people come here just as often or in such large numbers if they were not allowed to interact normally? [/b]
