A long long time with no mini
I got it back on the Tuesday a week ago.
I do not as yet have the full list of things that were done by the mechanics,
But the bill was about a grand more than they or I would have expected.
In the last 4 months this mini owes me over five and a half grand.

So much could have been done with that money,
ABut it was done to the mini instead.

But it is a fairly nice car to drive now,
given im being very nice to it, only done a few hundred kays, buts its nice, and my mates reckon it sounds great and nice, but i dont reckon its anywhere near lumpy enough at all.
Still nice.

Since ive had it back for the 8 days, ive ran out of fuel twice, and was 5 kays from doing so a 3rd time, i need a fuel gauge.
It got about 33mpg on the drive to hobart from north, then in normal town driving it only managed 20mpg again,
Very silly but still fine

Its currently away at the moment having a few holes in teh floor fixed and the floor pan rust proofed.
so thats good, was due back today, but didnt happen

So in the end, 4 months without it, almost 6 grand spent on it, got a nicesh deal on insurance for it, i dunno if id do it again,
So much differnet i could have done,
Brief specs and stuffs

1098 bored to 1152cc or whatever 60thou over is
Mild cam
Decked block
lightened crank
bit of head work,
extractors + rc40 muffler
Twin 1/1/4" SU lots of new bits in them
Reco gearbox & diff
new water/oil pumps
new clutch, radiator
and some other yummy bits i dont recall

But
there it is
and if it causes me no grief for 5 years, then ill be rather happy.

Rule number one of mini ownership - NEVER think about what it's cost you ......
Looks great though and I'm sure you'll enjoy it , whatever it cost (still cringeing at the price you mentioned .....).

WEll yes
I am happy with the outcome and it is probably the only time in my life when i will have money just to throw around like nothing.
And it doesnt matter, its basically a whole new car, despite a few little body imperfections, which some are being attended to.

I wouldnt think that ive even used more than 30% throttle yet, I was told to take it easy, but read to give it a bit up the hills,
and sitting on 80 kays, onbig hills that at 110 you'd slow to 90, using abuot 30% throttle, id accelerate to 100 kays by the top.

So it goes real well,
Quite happy,
and now i can start crusing with the Mini Club of Tasmania, first cruise is coming up this Sunday.
which is great :wink:

Its jerry can time for sure though :P

Good buy for runnin it in properly as u were told. dont be tempted to thrash it
or you will regret it! Just take itnice and easy!

It will have a fair amount of poke too once it all run in mate. it money well spent.

Here was the car on the start up the day after i got it, 3 weeks ago or something,
i assume that much puffing is normal

But thats what it sounds like for now

the CAMEL plates were only got by me a few days before the car came back on the road.
And i drove this car today, and it was very fun :)

must say the car is looking quite bling. are you planning to get it dyno'd to see some hp ratings but by the sounds it should be an excellent clubby.

Im pretty sure im going to be nice to mini for the moment or maybe for a very long time, so no heavy footed right boot action at all, so probably not dyno.

But i got sent in the mail today the complete list of parts and description from the mechanics and they typed as follows.

I got posted the final list of things done to my mini in its repair process,
So i will just list them for fun.
THeir description of events
Remove and overhaul engine & transaxle etc;
Fit extractors, make up & fit exhaust system;
Modify & fit intake manifold to suit twin carbies;
Overhaul carburettors, synchronise & set mixtures etc;
Overhaul alternator;
Overhaul starter motor;
Make up plug for gear leaver extension housing;
Fit new temperature switch;
Drill & tap holes in timing cover to suit main bearing cap etc.

4 hyperteck pistons 060 oversize - 139
double row timing chain - 57.40
2 g box bearings - 107.40
4 refaced valves - 10
Starter repairs - 80
spark plugs - 14
engine enamel - 20
engine mount - 59.50
thermostat and housing - 38.70

2 carby kits - 64.60
fuel and breather hoses - 8
frieght - 24
exhaust pipe - 52
radiator corrosion inhibitor - 10

Its a wee bit on the smokey side, but could just be first run, but something to check, would.t be happy if it was my car though!
