Post subject:  Registering a mini....

I'm seriously considering buying a mini from Queensland and was wondering how difficult it will be to register in Sydney ?

The car has been restored, but has a reasonable amount of motor work.

Coming from interstate it will need a blue slip the same as an unregistered car appart from that there should be no problems

PS the blue slip is normally a bit tougher than regular pink slip so best if it is in good condition.

All you need is a blue slip from an accredited inspection centre.

The car will need to meet all the normal safety requirements of any other car on the road. No more - no less.

People get very worried about blue slips but they are really no more difficult than a pink slip. Present the inspector with a clean well presented honest car and they probably wont go looking for issues provided it is fundementally right. !!

The worst that can happen is that they may give you a list of things that needs repair - fix those things and then go back and be reinspected for the slip.

Sorry fuzzy - wasn't menaing to contradict you - iI will clarify what I said.

For a blue slip - an inspector has to provide more inspection details and comment on more items. However, the object is to ensure that the unregistered vehicle is safe to be on NSW roads. As i said - if its a good car then it wont be a problem

I agree mike but they try to use the blue slip to prevent dodgy cars ever getting on the road so they tend to look a little harder... If it is a good well sorted car no problem IMO. 8) and like you said at worst they will give you a list of things to fix

Cool, but do they normally pick on modifications?

Will they pass a mini with aftermarket exhaust / intake?

Shouldn't be a problem plenty of guys running around with aftermarket exhaust and inlet manifolds.

Just how wild are we talking though , if it's just extractors and a webber say , so long as it looks neat and there's a decent throttle return spring on the webber (or whatever carb) than you're right . If it's an outragous , fully sick , exhaust with a muffler that looks like it came off a D9 Dozer and a home made dodgy supercharger held on with cable ties then you'll have problems . They aren't normally out to fail every car that comes there way but be realistic . Not sure about Victoria but in NSW if it fails you have to go back to the same inspection station to get it passed , well , in theory you do , you can go elsewhere but if the RTA audit the original inspectors books and then see your car was passed elsewhere they'll reinspect your car and interview both inspectors to ensure there was no corruption involved .

Hehehehe

Chances are that it will be the first time the inspector has ever stuck his head under a mini bonnet. He would not know was was after market and what wasn't and if this is 100th car to pass through the workshop this week then he probably doesn't care.

He, in clear mind, just wants to know he is authorising a safe car to be on the roads.

Sydney is the most ridiculous, convoluted, beauracratic, idiotic and over priced rego system in the country.

That's my rant, now I will get back into my box......

Maybe,
Well, at least we don't have to take lots of the goodies off it first, like for the Regency Gestapo in SA...
