Just about to order some new bits from my local mini parts turkey, does anyone know what I need to order to get rid of that god-awful buzz that comes from the base of the gearstick? I seem to remember a cup filled with rubber or a nylon thingy on the end or something and a ball sorta slipped into that?? I this what I need? http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=37993 I don't know where the other two bushes go though. |

Nah that's fine. It's not knocking or anything, it's just that I get that high pitched buzz through the gearstick. It seems that every mini I've ever owned does it but now I'm gonna make it all civilised by fixing it. The two bushes at the back of the remote housing were replaced some time ago, but now have a small amount of play. I'm not sure if I need to replace them but the engine will be out for cam change and I was thinking of doing them anyway. |

If it's the Cooper S/Deluxe/Mini-K remote with the coil spring on top of the gearstick retainer, I'd replace that nylon split ring that holds the ball down. When they are worn out the spring can't do its job. Another trick I used in the distant past is put an 850 spring and cup into the linkage socket above the diff housing, it's already machined to take it. Pack it with grease on assembly. ![]() |

Gte a Morris Minor front suspension trunnion bush (looks like a rubber top hat). Remove the gearstick, shove the bush (brim end up) on the bottom of the gear lever (goes between the two ball sections of teh stick) and re install. It will solve all rattle/sizzle problems. Cheers, Ian |

Looked up the parts in an old catalogue, found that the split ring is apparently NLA as well as the nylon seat at the base of the stick (May I have a part number for the trunion bush please Ian). But it seems that Moss Europe still have the nylon seat for AU$3.10 and Minimania have the split ring for AU$41.00 ![]() Minispare have these parts as last being sold in 1999. I don't think it's quite right they must still be easily available elsewhere. Are they available locally? |

I got the nylon cup that goes on the end of the remote stick new not so long ago from the local mini place. Seems silly that they are NLA as they will wear out and there is not all that much to them ![]() |

I reckon mini spares have just stuffed up for these two parts to be NLA in their books. I'll just check the local boys out. Doc: The spring you spoke of, it literally sits in the socket above the diff cover does it? I saw something about it online, but it alluded to spridgets and the parts didn't seem familiar, even though it was in the classic mini parts section. http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=37993 |

Mick, p/nos of the little cup and spring were 2A3467 and 2A3390 I think, were the same as used on end of magic wand gearlever. I put them in my old 850 back in the 60s. All NLA now I guess. ![]() Hmmmm I might have to start a new company- `NLA Engineering'...haha ![]() |
