Post subject: | Canadian Honda brake conversion finally finished. |
Well I started this conversion in November '05 and worked on it a little here and there, it really wasn't much work it seemed to be alot of waiting. I had to wait for my 13x6 sport packs to finally get here from england. Then I had to wait for a machine shop to machine some bits for me before I could test the brakes. Once everything was working I had to strip it all down and detail some parts before powdercoating. Finally got the parts back from powdercoating today (calipers orange, caliper mounting brackets black) and threw everything back together. And it was definately worth the wait. It still going to be a while before they will go through my extensive testing as the car is still in progress. The brakes are vented 9.5" Honda brakes. I designed my conversion so to be cost efficient, retain drum hubs and use off the shelf Honda parts without having to modify either the rotor or the caliper. It cost me about $400 CDN for new calipers rotors and pads, $60 CDN for machining, $10 CDN for metal for caliper mounting plate, $50 CDN for powdercoating and $70 CDN for stainless braided flex lines at all four corners of the car. My initial testing already has proven that these brakes are significantly better than 8.4" Mini disk brakes so I am glad to go the route I did. I also rebuilt the rear brakes and used Cooper S wheel cylinders to balance the brakes between front and rear a little better. ($40 CDN) Here are the results after powdercoating. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fitting before powdercoat ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Very nice! ![]() What model Honda rotors etc are they? I've built a few sets, using early Honda Civic calipers and rotors. But those rotors are nice and shallow. ![]() |

I checked vicroads, theres nothing saying you cant, and i've spoken to the local mini mechanic who also does RWC, (with these he's honest, he'll fail anything illegal, like 13x6's on an 850) and he says theres no problem. The brake people harley spoke to prolly just wanted to sell him new calipers. |

Looks great. What are you using to hold the rotor onto the drive flange? |
