G'day,

Dylan has a re-co'ed engine in his Mini. When it was built, it sat in the garage for about 6 months, and has never had the head re-tensioned.

Since fitting the engine, (about 4 weeks ago) he's driven maybe 1000 Km's and its all ok.

Should I re-tension the head or leave it alone????

Thanks

Yepp - retension and enjoy.

Dad was an engineer before driving trucks and he always believed in the click and nip method(well for diesels anyways). Click to the torque and nip a flat. 500km later nip another flat and all was sweet. Bush mechanics - maybe but the man never broke down.

I am in the sameboat with a complete motor sitting on the bench(found a hornet making a nest in my thermostat housing!!!) so will run the motor and nip up after the first run(whenever the hell that may be!!!)

Hooroo

Can't speak for Safety Bay, but Port Kennedy is warm and cosy with clear blue skies.

Everything is perfect in the west! 8)

well i tighened down the head but didnt get a chance to adjust the valve rocker clearance while i was at it, so that a job for when im at mum and dads next (i dont think i ahve the right tools). tell me please, is this normal? i tightened them down to 42lb/sq. in in the following sequence (looking down at the head, thse are the studs)

6 2 4 8
7 3 1 5 9

numbers 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8 were fine, but 7, 3, 5 and 9 took about a fifth of a turn before the torque wrench clicked. this is ok???

oh and i had to put my front number plate back on too... grrrr
