Post subject:  stupid ... but easy ... question
I have gone to jack Mo (my Mini before anyone adds any snide remarks) up but I cannot see where his jacking points are. There is a square just behind the drivers front wheel, but then as I lift the car, it seems to buckle in... I couldnt see anywhere else that wasnt part of the metal of the body

So how do I lift the bugger up..? :oops:

argh
no not that square
the jack that come with minis is a stick. a screw encased in a case.
theres a notch on that screw, and you stand it up, fit the notch into a 20mm by 20mm hole in the sill
and turn the hex at the top of the jack

its nothing like the newer jacks that are diamond shaped with the screw horizontal
the screw in mini jacks are vertically placed, and a notch on the side lifts up the car

i've got one of those jacks, and it's a pain.... i'm gonna have to get myself a trolley jack..:)

OK that aside.. I have a trolley jack.. Where would I jack it up using that..? Under the front subframe in the middle..??

Also if I want to put it on stands.. where would I put them..??

Before you buy a trolley jack, make sure it will fit under. And ONLY jack on the subframes. Mini front floors are not designed for it, particularly after 30+ years of corrosion. :lol:

Note the stock Mini side jack is designed to be used with the door open. It pains me to watch people trying to use one with the door shut.. :P

Thanks ... !!! :lol: I knew that it would be an easy question..I tell you one thing I certainly hope that I never get a flat..!

The trolley jack should be fine because I had lost it under the Mini before. :roll:

i know what you mean about the floors doc.....i watched one day as one of my old man's friends proceeded to drop the mini over the end of the ramps.....big dents......hey that reminds me...is there anything that important that could have been squashed by that?

First time I ever went to jack a Mini up, I thought to myself "jeeze, this would be alot easyer with the door open", funny that!

If the jack wont fit under the car you lift the car!

You can drive the car onto a block of wood (the nice white ones on the side of the road are good) or if you are realy desperate you can drive onto your spare wheel! Then you can jack the car up!

A trolley jack is a pain to carry in the boot. Make sure you have a cover on the battery!
I used to carry the standard jack for road use.

Make sure the standard jack is in good condition and the threads are greased.
And make sure the standrd jacking point is not rusty!

ahh I should be fine with the trolley jack in the driveway. Its just to check my bearings/CV joints.

Trolley jacks are so cheap now, I saw a good one for $20 new the other day. Maybe I should go buy another and leave the leaky one out front, for the vultures... :lol:
