Post subject:  Steering column

Hi all

I am planning on swapping the steering column from my S with the one in my GT this weekend as the S one is tidier.

Any tips? Is it as straight forward as it looks or am I likely to regret having started it come Monday?

Cheers
Stu

when removing my Clubby column I found the splines and the base were stuck tight. I had to soak the area in Penatrene, to losen it up. Still took some effort to seperate the column fom the rack.

Post subject:  Pinch Bolt

Do a search on column or pinch on AUSMINI

It is NOT an area yoy should be playing in unless you know what you are doing. Placement and tightening of the pinch bolt is crucial.

Be very very careful or get some professional or knowledgeable advice. :?

Hmmmm, I think you are trying to be helpful......I think

Yep, for a couple of hundred you can pick up a newish rack, check the U Bolten and carefully centre the rack....make sure the nylon sleeve is good in the column...make sure the slotted end has not been overtightened at some stage and has become distorted so that it ain't grabbing the splines right on the pinion......ensure the pinch bolt is corectly inserted and tightened iaw the manual........then enjoy your MIni :D

Both minis steer fine, no issues there.
The thing that I want to swap is the outside part of the setup and the indicator assembly. One is scruffy and rusty, the other is quite tidy.
