A fake plate!

Just a warning, if you are going to bid on this plate it does not look genuine. It has no scratches, the stamps are the wrong size and it should not have the date on it.

I think that they have stamped their old numbers on a new plate. 8)

I agree , its quite obviously a fake . Mk1 plates DO NOT have the date on them , the engine number stamps are wrong size , also it should have a small "a" in the prefix : 9F/Sa/Y . The colours are also wrong , he says its was white , but the first colour on the plate is the roof colour , so according to that , it would be Black with a White roof , ( WOW ..a very rare black Cooper S ??)..... cheers

No , there is no law against selling an ID plate , but it is ILLEGAL for the purchaser to use it on a car .... i think they call it re-birthing , and there are heavy penaltys if you get caught . This is why ebay usually removes them .

"THIS PLATE CAME OF ONE OF MY SMASHED UP COOPERs YKG2S2 THE CAR NO 901 , ENG 9F/SA/Y38738 IT WAS WHITE AND BLACK TRIM"

PART TWO

"didnt say it was genuine, what you see is clear enough info, it only an identifaction plate not a compliance plate,,these plates were fitted so the dealers could easly identify the many different models in the dealership at that time, and it was fitted to my car, that was smashed"

'Not a factory plate" so who fitted these special dated plates one might ask?

There you go he didn't say it was genuine and apparently fitted so dealers could tell the difference between a Cooper 'S' and a Deluxe!!!!

Oh dear me.

Ah yes and im the POPE ...hahahaha .......Hmmm car number 400 made in 4/66 ????( not that the date was on Mk1 ID plate anyways) So that means between August 1965 when Mk1 production began , and April 1966 only 400 Cooper S where produced in a matter of 8 months thats about 50 a month .
