Finally! Rushed home from work today to finish putting in the passenger seat and managed to take her for a spin to put some air in the tyres. The first time it has been on the road since sept 04!! One small problem though-well a couple actually. The rev gauge doesn't work ![]() ![]() PS, the ignition problem was evident BEFORE I started rewiring the headlights and spotlights. Cheers, Nunny ![]() |

The coil being very hot is most probably because your ignition is staying on. If you are going to leave the car for any amount of time and you can't get your ignition to turn off properly I'd suggest you disconnect the battery as power is going to the coil and making it hot, too much of this and you will blow your coil (not a big issue but still better to not have it blow). Mine was doing similar when I forgot to turn the ignition all the way off in my clubby ![]() ![]() |

![]() The coil is getting hot because there is a supply to the coil and current is flowing through the coil all the time, even after you have tuned off the ignition and removed the key. Not a good thing and could eventually cook the coil. A couple of possibilities: 1. Faulty ignition sw that is not turning off 2. Connections at ignition switch are wrong. Main incoming supply connected to IGN ON side of switch???? 3. Tacho is faulty or not wired up correctly and is bypassing the ignition switch. You need to check wiring connections at ignition switch and test to see if ignition switch is actually turning On and OFF. Tacho not working could be faulty tacho (there are 2 types of Clubman tacho, a current sensing type and the later voltage sensing type) , faulty or wrong connections, or maybe the flexible printed circuit board on the rear of the instruments is faulty. The 2 problems could be related or completely separate. (Faulty tacho could be supply current to the coil, bypassing the ign sw.) Just curious. If the ignition won't turn off how have you been stopping the engine? What is cleaning up some wiring? This will give you a start. Regards RonR |

cleaning up the wiring meant that I was tidying up the loose wiring that has been done before and tying it up with cable ties (til I get time to sort it out properly). As soon as I turn the key back one click the engine stops as it should and the red ignition/alternator light comes on. turn it another click and no warning light, then the last click to take the key out and the ignition/alternator light comes on again and stays on even when I have removed the key. The bottom right wire to the ignition (out of the 4 wires giong to it) is currently not connected and I have to 'hotwire' the car to start it. Had a look at the back of the tacho and the flexible circuite board looks pretty cactus. Can you get new ones? Thanks muchly miniron, nunny |

okay, seems like my alternator is stuffed. I had the car running and went to take out the battery and the car died instantly. Also drained the battery as I was driving it. Stopped at a mates place, went to start it later and the starter solinoid was click click clicking. Put in another battery and no problem starting. The battery that went flat is brand new. |
