ok so all has been running smoothly since i put the new wngine in about 2\3 or 4 weeks ago, it is going well, its not overheating and still sounds like the timing is correct. i have tightened down the head, i need to do the valve clearances (friday).

but someting is up with i think the clutch. you know when you try to move off in too high a gear and th whole car shudders? well mine is doing that in 1st. and sometimes reverse. its only just started.

and to think, last week i was going to post a new thread "what is wrong, everything works properly!"

so whats up with my mini???

It could be oil getting onto the clutch plate. That will make it shudder on take off. Is it leaking any oil under the clutch housing?

no its not the oil, we just had a lot of hassles with that, i went through 4 l of oil in less than a week, it was pissing out that hole underneath the clutch housing, but now the orange seal is in properly so thats ok. i ahve no oil leaks for somereason at the momoent.

and all the engine mounts are ok, we checked the bottom 2 which were all good, and the top 2 are both good too. dad tried rocking the motor but it barely mobved, so thats not it.

do you think it could possibly be the clutch adjustment?

Did you clean the clutch plate with some brake cleaner or similar while you had it apart ? If you had trouble with the seal and oil was coming out the hole in the bottom of the clutch housing then there's a good chance it's gotten onto the clutch plate and causing the shudder unless you cleaned it . When the oil leaks out the crankshaft seal , centrifical forces try and spray it outwards on the flywheel , through the clutch plate etc .

OK this is one way of getting rid of light oil on a clutch plate, do a couple of second gear take offs and heat the plate up and burn it off, will not work on clutches that are soaked but can work on plates that are lighty covered
