Let's have a register / thread dedicated to PARTS CARS! :P

Let's face it....where would we all be without that fabtastic bargain parts car we bought to donate parts to our resto / daily hack / show car etc....

I will start.

This is Sunny. A 2/77 Clubman S, with factory fitted Webasto roof. Got him for a great price. He was just out of rego and parked on the street. I had a mate drop a note on the windscreen and the owner called me the next day. He said to me" I will come over and pick you up, show you the car, and drop you home....I just want it gone"

OK mate....no worries!!

Image

I will use some parts for my GT resto. Things like trim clips, door handles, window winders, nuts, bolts and all those sh!t bits that you never have when you want them. PLUS it's currently a cubby house for my son :D

Purchased a 1964 850 Mini Panel van last year. It had been sitting in the yard since 1988 after it was involved in a accident. It was a 1owner with a genuine 64,000miles but unfortunately was completely rusted out. Sitting in grass for 17years didn't help.

Oh good question - which reminded me. Also wrecked a 1275 LS Clubman was Hi Ho silver (if that's the correct paint code/name) was involved in a accident as well, and had a considerable amount of damage. Have more pics at home of both the Clubby and the Van.

One thing you can say for this forum , you can never keep a serious thread serious or a tongue in cheek thread as such , someone will always have fun in a serious one and ask a serious question in a fun one ......

I got a 1974 Clubman S on the weekend, parts will be used to furnish my (other) 1974 Clubman (no s).
Anyone know anything about making trailers from minis?

Bought this clubman for $100, rang the guy at 5am & bought it over the phone, went to pick it up on the following Saturday, he had 87 calls for it, changed the leaking fuel pump & took it to a motorkhana on the next day, came 2nd outright in the car, kept it for 3 years as a motorsport hack, sold over $100 worth of bits out of it over those 3 years. The rust got so bad in it that i pulled it to bits & sent the shell to mini heaven.

We bought an ex- paddock basher Clubby van once, for $20. Floors were all history so we cut it in half...
My boss got the arse 1/2 for a trailer, the front 1/2 went to the tip. Mechanically, I still have the motor, and the wipers- and the gearset went into my son's Clubby.
Gearbox case was a hoot- they had busted the drain plug area on a rock or something, and just hammered a hardwood plug in there. Guess what, it didn't leak!!

The parts cars of bnicho:

1) 1978 Clubby S in 1990 for free. It was white with a red drivers door and a blue bootlid. It ran and had rego, but blew smoke everywhere and was full of rust. I stopped driving it when the drivers door virtually fell off due to doorskin rust. Stripped various bits off it for my Deluxe and sent the shell to the crusher.

2) 1976 Clubby S - Brown in 1996 for $350. It had an argument with a Torana and lost, plus bogged up sills and floor. But it had recently had a reco 998 and new brakes fitted, and it had a set of contessas with good tyres. Breifly used as a paddock basher. The contessas and brakes went on the van, and I sold the engine and box for $500. The bootlid from this car now belongs to "Brown Clubman" and the doors to two different Minis in the club.

2) 1972 Clubby (standard) - White - in 2001. It was given to me by a friend's father for free. Only 96,000km on the clock and one owner. It ran very well but was as rusty as rusty can be. Sills, floor, guards, roof, doors, bonnet, boot lid, all had big holes. Briefly used as a paddock basher, then stripped for spares and crushed. The engine was intended for use in the Moke, but then I found a 1275 Auto instead...

3) 1974 Clubby van shell - white - minus motor, rear doors and wheels in 2002. Free if I picked it up. Donated a LR quarter to the Traveller and rear subframe to the Moke. Bodyshell taken to the tip. Stupid idea - I had to pay $13 to dump it there. I'll never do that again!

i got this one for the set of contessas, $400, when i moved to tassie. started to turn it into a racer, but then we decided to go o/s for a while and i had to get rid of it. i kept the engine and gearbox and wheels, but the rest i just left as payment for hire of the trailer to move it out of a friends house because the trailer hire place used minis to move the trailers around the yard :D
