Gingerbeer is a rhyming slang for engineer that has been used by the military for over a 100 years. Breaker Morant in one of his Boer war poems makes mention of the "gingerbeers".

It was still a term being used in the army when I was in from 68-70.

It's common slang in the civil construction world too though it tends to get various explanations (all froth and bubble , got a bad head , full of promise but doesn't deliver (no alcohol) etc etc ) as to why .

Do you mean you are an engineer that can certify or whatever changes to vehicles or only some aspects?

If so can we have more details and contact info please?

Qld Transport use 'Authorised Officers' to approve modifications and affix blue modification plates. Some of these Authorised Officers are qualified engineers.

The law in Qld is that it is illegal to provide professional engineering services unless the engineer is regstered with the Board of Professional Engineers (www.bpeq.qld.gov.au) or works under the direct supervision of a registered professional engineer (RPEQ).

For most of the modifcations that are allowed to be done to a vehicle, no formal engineering qualification is really required, just a good knowledge of good practice or the prescribed rules. Therefore Queensland Transport does not require all Authorised Officers to be engineers. It depends on what modifications they want to be allowed to approve.

So, some authorised officers are engineers. Most engineers are not authorised officers (eg, me).

In your case Gerard you need and AO but you may get one who is an RPEQ too.

I am sorry if some of you understood that I personally am a certified Engineer. What I ment was that I know two people that are qualified to do the relevant cheacking and can certify mods in My area. And they do the Blue Mod plates. These days some RWC Stations can do this. I said it that way as I know that Gerard does not live far from me and it will probably be convienient for him too.
