Post subject:  auto mini morris.. *HELP*
does anyone know about how should i drive/ care one of these auto minis?
i have bought one not long ago.. it's 1967 auto...
as i am not really use to drive cars over 40 years old... :oops:

and if anyone knows what kind of engine oil should i use and do i need to add anything other than premium unleaded?

plz help me and my pinK mini~

I have heard that manual changing prolongs the life of the Auto box as does frequent oil changes (that makes sense because an auto has tiny galleries for directing and controlling the squishy stuff)

Shell 20 sumpthing....others will know.

(do an Ausmini search on auto.... :idea: )

I've had a few of these autoboxes in MiniMatics and Morris 1300 autos..
Any 20W/50 will do, as long as it is NOT friction modified and NOT synthetic.
Castrol GTX or Valvoline SF 20W/50 etc is fine.
Changing gears manually will neither lengthen nor shorten its lifespan. If you want to prolong its life, change the oil and filter every 1500 miles. Oilz is cheap... 8) :lol:

Run flashlube with the fuel. There are others on the market, but flashlube is what I use, and the choice here on ausmini.

It's simple, just add 1ml per litre of petrol. Usually 25ml (or 1/2 a little squirty bottle) a tank. 8)

was that the one on ebay? looked nice, even for a pink car ..

[takes brave pill] I challenge the Doc!! [so there :cry: I'm gunna get it now :roll: ]

I driven em too Doc....and like any Auto they get confused and want to lug or kick down at inappropriate times....they have to slip their little clutch pack exessively, churn and overheat their oil and they are surely stressing themselves when they do....therefore some sensible manual cog swapping assists with smoother changes IMHO [Sir :oops: ]

I have to agree with the doc. There is nothing in the box that would be helped or hurt by changing manually or by not changing manually.

If the clutch is going to slip when you take off in drive it is still going to slip if you stick it in 1st.

I have had people tell me that the valve body needs to be used manually to keep it working.... Well, you go through all the gears from neutral to get to drive. So you are shifting all the valves every time you stick it in drive.

Main clutch that ever gives trouble (usually from old age or dirty oil) is the forward clutch pack, but it is engaged in all forward gears.
The top/reverse clutch is only used for 4th & R, and it is heavier duty. Later models had Kevlar facings on it.

BTW all repair parts for these boxes are available I've been told, ex-UK.

all my friends tease me on the "hot pink mini" eheh

but then that's the only AUTO classic mini i came across...

now i am proud to be its owner! [certainly draw a lot of attention on the road] :D

Thanx mate!! There are a lot of technical terms that i need to learn since I know nothing about them. Right now every piece of info is valuable to me!! :wink:

I have a white 1969 minimatic. I have changed the forward clutch on the minimatic transmission.
Use only standard oils no friction modifers should be used and change the oil regularly.
We also run our matic overfull (about 20mm) with oil which seems to help maintain stead 50psi oil pressure.
If it will not select reverse check:
1. the gear change cable adjustment
2. Reverse gear band adjustment (this means opening up the transmission!!)

PM a postal address and I will send a photo copy of the workshop manual section on the transmission.

You can adjust the bands with the motor in the car, it just needs the oil drained and that big front cover removed.

re the automatic supplement- (FULL one, not the little adjustment bit only):
The only Mini workshop manual that includes this now is the Leyland comprehensive one (Black Book).
Still available from www.pitstop.net.au for ~$70.
Worth buying for this alone, if you have a MiniMatic. :wink:
