My mate has a pair of matching Solex carbs DCOE40 or whatever the code is... anyhow... he's offered me one or both (if for some reason i wanted two) for $75 each approx. He said that they're pretty much exactly the same as a Weber but just a little shorter. If that's the case a Weber manifold should be all i need to fit one to a mini. Is that right? If there is a difference between the carbs... what is it and what are the pro's and con's of a Solex? I know a lot of people put Webers on minis but haven't heard much about Solex's. I'll most likely need to rebuild the damn thing... if anyone can give an approximation on the cost of rebuilding a carb and the cost of a weber manifold that will help me decide if i want it. Thanks... in the meantime i'll do some more net searching. Haven't found much yet. Nothing mini related anyhow. |

i think you will thind it hard to get parts for them i think they were on jap cars like toyota's and stuff makka |

http://www.carburettorservice.com.au/ will have any part you need...give them a ring and ask about the carby's.. they should know how they go on minis.. |

They would be Solex PHH, similar to a Weber DCOE, much as a Dellorto DHLA is. Not seen one for years, so don't know what parts supply is like now. |

my father ditched the solexes from his corolla engine for webers in the early 80s because the solex parts were hard to find then. could not see it has gotten any easier since then EXCEPT you can probably order whatever you need direct from Japan or USA on the net now  suggest you google them before you buy

I've taken all that on board... the engine my mate bought came with the Solex's but was fitted with the Webers. This seemed to me that there's a decent reason to go for a Weber over a Solex. The engine in question is a 3T/2T hybrid Toyota engine (3T block and 2T head, or vice versa, can't remember which). The 2TGEU came factory with twin Solex's so that's where they came from. I'll keep looking. Although $75 isn't a lot of money, the cost of a rebuild plus manifold and new jets will surely make it a decent investment. |

The Solex carbs fitted to Jap cars are made under licence by Mikuni. So look for mikuni bits.

Well, just for verification... is my friend correct in thinking they're virtually the same as a Weber? |
