Post subject:  Which Yokos are best for 10" cooper s steelies?
I'm replacing the Falkens on the deluxe with Yokos.

I can't decide wether the A008s or the A032Rs would be better.

I prefer the look of the A032Rs, and the car will now be more of a weekend fun car (no competition work, just driving etc) not a daily driver so longevity is not a real consideration, and cost is only a small factor.

What I want to know is, (from people who have used both preferrably);

Which is the better tyre for fun road use?

Which is better in the wet?

Which is best?

Differences in handling?

Differences in road noise?

a008s are good never had a032r's but i have heard that dunlop formula R's are better than a008s for around the same price

032r's are too soft for a road tyre & will wear quickly, go the A008's or a set of Dunlop Formula R's, they both are realitivley cheap.

If you can stand the road noise and the high price per km driven go A032R. I've always found 008's a bit scary in the wet wheras A032R are great.

Definitely the 032R or Formula R's.

I think i'm going a set of Formula R's... might get a set tomorrow if they have them :P

I was just talkin to GR the other week and he said to get formula R's next time. he said they are stickier than the a008's for around the same price

Hmmm.. I find the A008s fine in the wet, even 1/2 worn they are better than NEW Falkens!
They didn't even grip properly in a straight line on DRY tarmac. :lol:
But yeah, I've heard good stuff about Dunlop Formula Rs too.

Are THESE the Formula R tires?
I thought they had more of a slick appearance, than a full tread like these.

That's absolute rubbish will! Falkens are THE WORST tires i have ever driven on in my life (albeit short) in the wet.

My A008-R's grip better in the wet than the falkens did in the dry.

A032R's are better than A008's. You will pay the price though in durability.

I reckon Formula R's look 8) never driven on them though.

I'm going to get some A048R's one of these days.

Not a chance... understeering characteristics in the wet with the A008s was horrific.


Sure the Falkens spun up in a straight line, but through hard corners i found them to be a much nicer tire.

I've used before
Bridgeys 226 (crap)
Kumho powerstars (cheap, grip was nothing to jump about)
Falkens (all round "good" tyre)
Yokohama A008s.

I've got A032R in "soft" compound. Apparently these, the A048R and the Dunlop Formula series can be had in multiple compounds. Often Australian dealers only stock one type. Checking the UK distributor's pages reveals a much bigger range.
The soft tyres pick up so many stones I have effectively sand blasted my wheel arches. In the Moke they even throw stones into the cabin!
Of course Mokesta has only done 5,000 km in 8 years so the wear rate doesn't worry me.
I got my tyres 2nd hand from a Lotus Elan rally car that used them for Targa. Apparently they were too hard for the previous owner to bother using them on another rally!!!
I wonder what they were like new?? I don't recon my engine could turn them, stuck to the road...

I stock the A032R and the A008 in the 10s and the A032 is a far superior tyre in the wet and dry.
The A048 is supposed to be the bees kneesa nd im wiating for them to come into stock but only can get the 13's.
The A539 for 13's is aslo another good tyre far superior to the bridgestone thing that is bloody expensive.
