Post subject:  Prices on Rebuilds
Ok i think the main bearing on my mini has gone..... when she heats up the oil pressure drops to 40 (30 at very hot) and down to 20 when idling.....
now when im at this oil pressure i get up to 2000+ rpms there is a knocking in the engine... and also when i jus tap the accel... so like not powering but not eased of... just the slightest touch i get another knockin noise.

now im pretty sure that the engine is up the shitter cuz the mofo i brought it from done a home engine build.... (since bought it it hasnt does more then 500miles ... yes 500 without a oil change... so i didnt do the bearing without oil)

now what i want to know is if anyone has had a engine rebuild done and how much it costed them and where they got it done? sorry bout all the crap before just i am really cut cuz i love my mini but now i might have to get rid of it

My rebuild was $3300 (Gearbox wasnt touched.)

That was $2000 in labor + parts for engine work (remove engine, strip, rebuild, put back in car, get running)
and
$1300 in machining work for block + head

That was for a stock 1100 rebuild with no mods other than head conversion to unleaded.

That was nearly a year ago.

Bob's has had alot done to it.. lots of head work, manifold work, etc.. Your's wouldn't be as expensive, sounds like you don't need a top end rebuild.. Unless you want a full power engine..

I have no idea now what my 1360 as cost :oops:

prob 6K + but thats with gearbox done 2. Then again it would have been lots me if the Dr had not done most of the work :)

yeh well my engines a 1330 wit a wade cam... 1.5 roller rockers... and a single hif44 on a RE manifold.... so its already a big engine

but ive had so many problems with it... had it for 1 year and have probably spent $5000 just fixing it because the doosh that put it together didnt do it right....
and like my dad told me just to cut a slot in the top and use it as a money box...... he reckons thats all its worth... so like if i sell it i wont be gettin another till i leave home oor the other option is to get a rebuild... but if the rebuild is gonna cost me $5g's i dunno if its worth it

To balance that - my rebuild - from 1293 to 1310, new pistons, gaskets, bearings etc etc clutch and a full balance came to less than $900. The engineering shop did the sub assembly of the block and I bolted the rest together.

The engineering shop shop is in Frog Rock Mudgee and I can recommend their work and I dont work there. In fact i dont work period, i am a farmer.

But any engine is going to cost a bit less than a grand once it goes to an engineering shop. The big question is why yours has problems such a short time after beiing rebuilt.

It's the price of labour mostly that blows the cost out.
My rebuild last year from 1310 to 1360 cost me $1300 in bits and pieces and machining. Apart from rebore pistons crank grind etc, that included a new orange dot clutch and new drive plate, crank & flywheel balancing, ARP rod bolts, cam grind and new lifters etc etc.
OK, I did all the leg work and put it together, but that's bloody good value for rebuilding a performance motor I reckon.

Doc - thats probably what it would cost here by the time petrol milage is factored in but if stibinator wants to contact me I would help him get reasonable engineering cost here in Mudgee.

I do not want the responsibility of building a motor for someone else but I wil see that he gets fair costs. And, in true country style, the engineers want to know that they have done a good job.

BTW - youngest brother 1310/71 is in hospital after suffering significant chest pains and undergoig tests.

My car lost oil pressure like yours but no knock. I replaced the main bearings, big ends, thrusts and oil pump. With all gaskets and new oil the cost was about $580. I did all the assembly myself and bought the parts through mini-spares in Sydney. Oil pressure is really good now, hot or cold.
I never took the head off and didn't touch the gear box (well I did change the diff ratio and put in a central pick up to cure the root cause..)
I did check the oil pressure releif valve.

Gee Mr Bob - farm aid = that was a while back, yes we applied and got a grant of $600 which certainly helped. At that point, the drought was at its worst and we had hundreds of acres of bare dirt and 500 sheep to carry both feed and water for on a daily basis. On an analogy basis - from the grant we were able to give every kid in the playground a smartie each.
