Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, only found it yesterday...
As of now I do not own a mini (YET), but I hope to in a few weeks. I would like to ask all for your opinions on which year clubman to buy. I personally want a 1978.

Your feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

If you are in Sydney czerial will love you he is a clubman man through and through.

He is also a great person to talk clubbies with.

Hi Ho Silver or Nugget Gold 78 1275LS with 12"s is a great choice

i think i would go the earlier clubbys the latter ones rusted alot worse due to the body preperation pre 76 were all rotor diped which means they were put on a big spit and the shell was dipped in paint and the paint got into all the nooks and crannys were as the last of them were done of the gun so the protection was not as good ..... dont get me wrong all mini's have rust but the earlier one were just not as prone

hahah thanks steve.. i do like clubbies a little bit

Mate it is really what you are after out of the car and what you can afford.
78's had much better seats, and if you get a 1275LS then you get a "luxuriouos"
mini. There is not a whole lot, besides interior appointments and engine
size to seperate them. Early early ones had seats that were
a little uncomfortagble compared with later clubbie seats, but they had 1100 motors.

If you have enough money, then as Steve said, go with a 1275LS if you can find
a good one. but they are worth more $$$

PM me or add me to MSN if ya want.

Hey Leyland Brother,

Welcome to Ausmini. It's a good thing you stumbled across Ausmini before you've puschased a mini, I didn't until I'd already bought one and paying the price. :?
You now have the chance to find out all the pitfalls there are in owning a mini.
Spend lots of time reading and ask copious amounts of questions.

Beware of this comment "only needs a few little things to get it on the road"

My best advise, don't rush in!

OH and just for the record mine is a 72 clubman with very little rust.

Thanks guys.

BTW i'm in northern burbs of Melbourne. There is a '72-'73 gold Clubman S in waubra rural vic... I saw it online, also a forum member pointed it out in the cars for sale section saying it's not a bad buy.

The thing that puts me off is that it has an 1100 in it.
There is also a '78 for sale in melbourne but it has a 1275cc MG Metro motor professionally fitted in it, but that also puts me off b/c it's not an original motor.

What do you think?

The 1100's are a good engine. Poeee has one in his van, and it goes along great.

O and Welcome to ausmini! Keep an eye on the events section if you ever want to meet up with some of the members here.

Also the Victorian Mini Car Club advertises mini's im Melbourne that are or sale, so it's worth checking out

Hey mate,

Im not a big fan of that clubby. It says it is an S (73 was the first year of production of
the S by the way) it has LS badges on it (wrong colour and year for an LS) plus it has the wrong door cards and gauges and flares for an S..... But in sayin that, It could be a great little car mechanically and the body lookos really straight. I just dont like the flares. but for that price it is actually REALLY reasonable!

OH and there are PLENTY of people that will tell you that a 1100cc motor is actually
a really good thing! me included. 998, 1100 can all be made to go really well!

I'm not the type of person who drives a stock standard car, saying that, it really doesn't matter if the badges are wrong to the model, i'd rather buy a mini with a straight and relatively rust free body and bad mechanicals than vise versa.

Does that sound right?

If the car has the wrong badges for the car and different door cards than originally put in and repainted WARNING bells would ring for me and I think that is what Chris is getting at and it would warrent closer inspection as new it may have been thrown together for a quick sale paint hides a lot of problems. Bitsers with fresh paint make me nervous.
