What would be the most recomended cam for a lively, daily use 1275?
Local mini shop says, i think its 276?
agree? disagree? What do ya think?

yeah the stock cam is the most suitable for daily driver use, the "fast road" cams enable hoonage, but most of the time in traffic you're doing less than 3000rpm..

the re-13 cam is probablythe way to go

i like the sound of the sw5

Tried those before, I reckon a Russell Engineering RE13 is the go now.
At our last dyno day, around 1/2 the Minis there had one in. Including mine. 8)
Although I'm now running an RE282 in the 1360. It has a bit more mid and top end, not as good down low though.

Keith Calver reckons 1.7s only work on SOME race motors, too much lift for anything else.
See http://www.minimania.com/web/SCatagory/ ... ticleV.cfm

I run 1.5 forged ones in my 1360, and 1.46:1 Toyota Corollas in Barney (1293A+).
They do give more top end performance, with a bit of torque penalty at low rpm. I can live with that.... :P

I think they help with run-on a little as well.
At least with my car they did....

So Doc with that in mind.
To put in a 1.5 rockers for torque and that low down pull, but the 282 cam for mid and high rpm push, would be a lively combo?
Miniworld's: Keeping your mini alive 5. has a 286 cam as a 2000-7500 rpm range. Would your experience be simalar with the 282?
Cos that sounds awful nice....

Sorry doc compleatly missed the message there...... Let me rethink that

a 282 will pull from 3000-8500+..definately nothing at 2000...but you'll have far more power from 3000 onwards than the 286..

I'm going the RE13 in my 1310.
I will give you the low down once its all built up and run in.

Probably even give u a drive if you're lucky

Yes you could say the 282 is a 2000-7500+ rpm proposition. But neither it nor the 286 will pull properly or take full throttle (Weber/Dellorto) from 2000. They do get their finger out around 2800 or so.
1.5 rockers will give LESS torque down low, not more...
I can live with the 282 but if you do much stop-start traffic driving, RE13 is nicer. My 1310 gave good power to well past 7500 with the RE13 and 1.5 rockers.

Go an RE-13. 282 is far too big and lumpy for a road cam. It will be a very involving drive to keep the revs up every time you turn the key. RE13 is much more civilised yet can get you going when the need arises. i eill be putting one of these in the 1330
