Hey guys..

im having my 998 rebuilt..will be converted to 1100.

The top of the block will be chopped, so that 998 pistons can be used. higher CR.

lightened fly wheel..

1.5 SU

but the Cam thats most likely to be used is a 2051 ?? did i get the numbers right?

anyone know about it???

cheers. K

To use 998 pistons on an 1100 crank, according to GR you face around .140" off the pistons, you do not `chop the block'.
But by all means deck it a few thou to clean up.

In the old days, (when I was a wee lad) cams were usually identified by their timing figures.
eg Waggott Cams, Bert Jones Cams:
18/58
20/60
23/60
35/70 etc. etc.

So you are probably (maybe) talking about a 20/51.
If symmetrical (ie single pattern for both lobes) the full timing is 20/51 inlet, 51/20 exhaust.
If a single pattern cam it would have 251* of advertised duration, and 40* of overlap (both valves open at TDC).

This is not exactly a wild cam- the exhaust timing of a Morris 1100 or Mk1 Cooper S etc is 51/21.

These days the timing alone does not give a full picture of what the cam can do- valve lift is important, as is the lobe shape.

I would be going with a recognised cam grind that is known to work well in an A series. There are plenty about, local or imported. 8)

I like the local ones.... Russell Engineering gets my vote, but I run a Tighe 104 cam in Barney (because it was in there already).
Other locals-
Wade Cams
Camtech

so its pretty much tame??

this is wats being suggested by A well known mini place here in perth.

He says it needs to be drivable...

But surely even with 1.5 SU i could uprate it nicely??

this cam i think he said will be 130 dollars....wat should i be looking at, for a decent one??

cheers...K

the RE13 is a great cam but the SW5 is also a great cam for the small bore motors.there is plenty choice out there just as long as you dont go with the usual run of the mill stuff as that just gets boring.
