Post subject:  Fatties!!!

I want to put a set of fatties on my mini and i was wondering how wide i can go and still stay with some reasonable sized flares.

I cant for the life of me remember the size wheel or tyre i had on my last mini but i want to keep the flares about the same size. They looked like the pic below. I'm going to have basically a suzuki disc on the mini hub so it shouldn't be much different than if i had drum brakes, and it will keep the mini PCD and all the same steering geometry of the mini. The only thing need to have is 13" wheels.

So in case anyone forgot the question, roughly how wide a wheel can i go and still be inside the flares of about this size?

6" and below you can keep reasonable flares.

7" im pretty sure you go to sportspack arches.

Starts to depend on how strong your arms are / how big the steering wheel is if you go much over 6" wide

Both posters fail to recognise that it is not the WIDTH of the wheel, but the OFFSET.

If you can have a large or small offset willy it doesn't make you tyres any fatter  :?
I am talking about tyre widths.

Yes we didn't mention that you can get the tyres back under the guards by changing offset  but I'd be choosing the appropraite width tyre first and then trying to find a set of wheels to get it back under the guards.

So the offset is basically the distance between the centre plate you bolt the wheel onto the flange and the outside of the wheel?

It was his first post if I remember correctly.
Shouldn't be too hard to find.

Yeah unfortunately lil suzie was never found. I didn't mind those flares on her at all, but i think i'll go color coded with just a chrome strip. But i liked the size of them - I know everyone has their own opinion and i hope i'm not stepping on anyones toes when i say that i dont really like the zeemax style kits. A little too far away from original mini for my liking - looks wise. Thanks for the help with the wheel sizes.

I was just wondering whether you could get street tyres with the white writing on them, sort of like

Or do they only come like that for slicks - is there a road legal slick like tyre??
I reckon they'd look pretty tough on a mini - dont mind my photoshop skills

After all that i meant to say thanks for remembering my mini. I was pretty annoyed at the police for basically seemingly doing nothing and its good that someone actually paid attention. Thanks.
