i've been hearing these ads on the radio for this rust prevention device called a couplertec (http://www.couplertec.com.au)
supposedly it works by running a constant negative charge through the car which stops the positive charge of rust. they reckon that existing rust will not develop any further and its not possible for any new rust to develop.
anyone have any knowledge or experience of these things? only about $500 i think so if it works its much cheaper than taking the car to a panel shop to get fixed when rust starts to develop...

I have read a few reviews of thsi and practical applications. The results suggest that it is a pile of crap.

A small electric surrent will not change the fundeamental chemical reaction of a ferous compund. The natural state of steel is iron oxide and metal will take every opportunity to return to original state.

The best protection for rust is good preperation and suitable finishing. If you have rust the best thing to do is fix it. It will get worse until you cut it out and fix properly.

I'm inclined to put these in the same category as hyclones and polarisers .... If they are so good and effective for such a reasonable price the manufacturers would be fitting them from new and using them as a marketing tool to say why they have greater power/economy/rust prevention . Besides , what's the difference between running a negative earth car and putting a constant negative charge through the bodywork ?????

Manufactuers dont use these based on information from the second assasin of JFK, who swares that man nevers walked on the moon and that Elvis lives in the Burmuda Triangle where he plotted with the Government on how to cause September 11 so that Americans would support a fifth crusade against those designed a vehicle that could do 2000mpg with a special carbie that was targeted by the oil companies. whilst in development from alien technology examined in Area 51.

no, cos they had positive earth they just rotodipped them in anti corrosive stuff and made them out of marginally better steel
