My van had rust there too, but we just plated it, so no i did'nt use the panels, seemed easier to plate as it was a flat surface.

I'm guessing you saw my pics in the other threads, but anyway,
I just used some 1 point something mm thick zinc plated steel.

See pics here: http://zizzle.blogspot.com/2005_03_01_zizzle_archive.html

yea, i saw one of your pics, just had another look, yours has gon almost exactly the same as mine, so did you just bend up the outer skin and butt weld it? youve done a nice job!

I didn't pre bend. The angles are a little off down there, as the rear of the van slops forward as you know.

I welded the longer straight section that is just behind the wheel arch as normal. Then as I got the corner I would weld a little, then tap it around gently to match the curve, weld that part that lines up, repeat...

The strip I cut was deliberately wider down in that section. Sometimes while bending, the steel wouldn't fit in the gap. Just grid it to make it fit as you bend and weld.

Don't be scared to experiment. The worst that happens is you have to grind it off and do it again. Although, if you use your brain, you should rarely have to.

Do you plan on doing the inner skin too?

yea, ill have to do the inner skin too, but im not worried about that so much because it cant be seen from inside or out, and mine isint quite so bad. its the outter thats going to be dificult as mine isint lined, so its going to be visable from both sides. its a few months off yet before its going to even get started, but its good to research a bit first.
