Post subject:  Brake switch elec question

My brake lights haven't been working for a while now but I've managed to finally get to them on my fix-up list. I've located the switch with the two spades out of the top and tested that the positive green wire is giving power when the IGN is on, but I can't find any other wire coming out of the switch other then the negative wire? Is this the wire that powers the globes?

Theoretically then if I touched the two (both female) shouldn't that light up the globes so I can rule out wiring?

Also if this isn't possible and it's the switch itself, is it just a simple unscrew/rescrew new switch on or because it's hydraulic does that mean draining the system fitting new screw bleeding from scratch etc?

tia guys.

Yes, you can just "short" them out to see if it the switch or something else.

No, you'll have to bleed the system if you change the switch
(or you could fit a generic SuperCrap switch to the brake pedal & hook the two wires up to that)

What's the $ on a supercheap switch and difficulty in fitting?

I've been searching and reading up before posting my thread, some people have $3 dse/jaycar switches which i'm guessing are these, http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4439a7b90315d320273fc0a87f9c06eb/Product/View/P7802.

Is it just a matter of mounting that somehow to the pedal itself or the body?

SuperCrap$$$ - NFI
You need to mount it so that the pedal arm activates the switch.
Some moke pedal boxes already have a mounting bracket.
The DSE micro switch will need a bracket as it is a different shape.
Not hard to make a bracket anyway.

Before heading out I gave the terminals a light sand (plugs had silver paint all over them) and wallah stuff is working again.

Good to know for the future if it dies though thanks awd :).
