The change over has begun.............. I want to put my strong mini engine in from the mini I just totaled and put it in the mini I just got back from my brother.......... My question is .....Will the mini engine off the green one (R.I.P) which has a uni joint/remote gearbox and put that on the red mini which has pot joints/rod change gearbox......... I need to do this over the weekend so I have a car for school on tuesday............ Pat |

to do it in a weekend - I'd swap the driveshafts from your car to the new one... the pot joints are superior, but you need to swap the diff over, which really means splitting the motor off the gearbox etc. and it's likey to end up with more work required. It's not hard to mount the bracket for the rod change mechanism, and you'll need the left hand engine steady off yours you may find it's quickest to swap the whole subframe assembly from one car to the other - unbolt the lot from both, including steering rack and don't even take the wheels off them, roll them out and roll yours under the new one - if they're both dry suspension that is |

Gee - you have a lot of work to do. As far as the remote goes, the easiest way is to make the rod change bits and pieces fit. It can be done. With the engine out (or in) get the car as high as possible (very safely please) and see how the bits fit. You may have to modify and fit a bracket or two. As for the axle set up - undo the nut holding the axle to the brake hubs and withdraw the axle. Then replace that with axle from the rod change box. You will have to drop the top ball joint to put it all back together once the engine is in anyway. Make sure all six balls are in the pot joint properly as you put it back together. Dont even think about separating the gearbox unless you have all the gaskets, o ring, clutch oil sealetc and a clutch removal tool. Its just too big a job for the time you have Go Go Go Go and do it all safely. |
