Every two weeks I drive from Sydney to Port Macqaurie for work. 850km round trip in two days.

I have a number of cars that have done this run. I trun them over every 3 years. Anyhow the present vehicle is half way through its three year life so I was wondering

Would a roundie big block hang together do that trip, 850km of high speed highway driving every two weeks for 3 years?

With regular check ups and maintenence... why not?
But be expecting to break down at any moment

True, regular maintenance including the brakes.

Change the oil and filter a bit more frequently and keep it well tuned and you should be ok , more reliable than the Jag was in it's early days anyway . Gof for a higher ratio diff or bigger wheels (hint hint , siclad's 13" wheels he's selling would be good for that , look good on a roundie too) to drop the rev's at 110 kph .

Bring oil with you, i find that buzzing at 4100rpm on the freeway chews up lots of oil...

Your body would be de-formed and a hunch would appear mid back and right ankle. The mouth lifeless, due to the vibration loss of your teeth and a sudden loss of brain cells from the sweet scent of burning fuel and oil. Not to mention the suspention quality of a 40 year old shopping trolley.

Nah , a few upgrades in certain areas , talk to Matt (theminiman) about his Hi-Lo's , I think they have a smaller contact area to the rubber cones and that makes it a bit softer ride , or go hydrolastic . Also get a decent , modern drivers seat with lumber support and then a lot of sound proofing everywhere , it'll be nice and comfy and suit the longer drive .

The car would definetly be a hydro so it wouldnt be that bad. The car before the current one was 40 years old and I enjoyed it more than the current "modern" (20yo) car. So old designs are fine.

You should be able to drive around Aust a few times with no probs if it were built well

No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.
