upgrade to 1275 engine just wondering if once upgraded do you have to go through a inspection by the local driving authorities or not or is it just a matter of changing the engine number on the rego :?:

Don't know the go in Adelaide....usually just advise change of engine number......but just about anywhere they will also be looking for a set of disk brakes to go with the 1275.

Just fill in the form at your local SA transport office

and yes the form asks about the type of brakes fitted - you avoid raised eyebrows and nasty questions if you can just put down you have discs fitted.

Don't forget you void any insurance you have if the car is able to be declared unroadworthy. Not that I'm saying that insurance companies will be looking for any excuse not to payup mind you....

Tell the truth.....

unless you can tell a really good one and not get caught!

I don't suggest you make false claims on any documentation - that is a sure way to get yourself into trouble.

Just make sure you have those discs fitted before you do the paperwork

Forgetting about moral obligations and legalese. a 1275 just travels that much faster that much more easily. You quickly get used to the more everything until it becomes time to stop it. Well adjusted drum brakes in good condition are ararity in a mini and its not a long of fun sliding sideways down a road in a crach stop situation.

Nor is it a lot of fun at the bottom of a long fast hill with four people in a drum braked mini when you hit the brakes hard for the fifth time and they djust seem to want to do the job.

The fact is and drum braked mini set up was barely adequate in the first place. A mini with a 1275 simply dangerous because you WILL go faster. The brakes CAN NOT repeatedly cope with the extra performance
