...............but we still deserve the same road space as everybody else.

I was driving home last night through Eltham, there is a section of road that bottle necks from 2 down into 1 lane.

Now i was clearly in front of the car BEHIND me at this point of the road when they decided for what ever reason they didnt want to sit behind a mini, they started to overtake me (slowly) and sat beside me.

Basically they just blocked me from being able to move over, any way after a little bit of driving up the curb (lucky they where the smooth curved 1's) and mild case of tooting the horn and a bit of in-car road rage :evil: . i continued on my way home.

i just think it is very disrespectful to do this just because you have a nice new big family wagon.

I know we can get thru tiny spaces but this was stupid and dangerous.

I never wait till the end of the merging lane to move into the lane that continues along for that exact reason.
I have found it happens no matter what car you drive though, :? i've had it happen to me a few times in my falcon and commodore but at least then i muscle them outta the way esp when they aren't up to my b pillar. I even do it in the mini :lol:
I'm pretty sure the road rules state they must yeild if they are not up to your b pillar even if they are in the lane that continues.

If you think thats bad you should see the idiots on airport drive here in brisbane

Completely different situation, but same annoyance.

There is a carpark here in Geelong, which is maned by this old guy who takes your $5 and tells you where to park. Anyways, one day when I was at a course in town, when I had to park my 1275 LS in this carpark. So I go in, pay my $5 and he points to the left. So I go down the left and park behind this Falcon which was a parallel park against a fence. I got out, locked up, then headed off to the course. As I was walking out, the old bloke yells "not there, down the bottom" in an unecessarily angry tone. Anyways, he got me to move RIGHT down the bottom of the park, and park 90deg park right against the edge of the park, which only has a chain against the foot path. Basically, only my Mini would fit in there. I was extremely pissed off that I had to unlock my car, get in, start it up and shift it! If I was in the Falcon, I wouldn't of had the issue.

i think down here its whoever is in front, even by a bees dick, that has right of way...

lots of pepole underestimate the mini-how many of us have had to slam on the brakes when someone pulls out in front of you??? mnay times for me.

and rodney had this one instance at night when he got pulled out on, im not exactly sure of the story but it was too damn close, can you imagine the look on his face as he accelerates, and the car he thought was ages up the road goes zooming by??? :D

I live near eltham but most of my driving is inner city and I usually get right of way in my mini and create my own lanes when I have to get ahead. Worst I find are the stupid business style high truck-van things (mostly mercedes?), they are just retarded to drive on the roads with in a small car.

I think every mini driver has had some one pull out on them or muscle (try to) them out of the way.

I don't have it happen often anymore usually cause I take off alot harder in GTI mini and other cars fall behind. But I remember some guy doing it to me in my old mans ute, which is a POS by the way. A nice VX commodore. the guy thought i would stop even though I was a clear bonnet and abit ahead. Let me say he had a nice white and blue stripe down the side of his car. He just kept going so so did I. he he. he probly wont do it again though.

I have run someone off the road for doing that to me when the lanes merge.

They race up the left hand lane right at end when its ending and try and force you to brake. I wasnt having any of it.

In Qld the rules for merging changed about 3 years ago from the person on the left always giving way to 2 situations:
1) Where there is a defined taper away of one lane by line markings, the car in the disappearing lane gives way.
2) Where the dividing line marking just stops and two lanes turn into one, the car in the lead gets right of way.

Unfortunately Queenslanders are an ignorant lot who don't like to read much and can't change their ways. So I constantly find that people still think the left car always gives way. This has led to many situations as described in the original post.

Frustrating. And I daren't go postal when driving the Moke. Nowhere to hide when the other driver decides to have a piece of you!

When SA adopted the national road rules a few years back a great fuss was made of the zipper rule for merging traffic lanes. It was said to be the national standard and all the other states had been doing it that way for years successfully.

Anyway - SA adopted this zipper rule approach - left lane then the right then the left then the right etc and it has caught on pretty well. There will always be the odd idiot but in general if you start to make the move to take your rightful place under the zipper rule over here, the space opens for you.

Yeah I know - strange place to find curtious drivers but it has made a real difference over here I think

over where i am trying to merge onto the highways the trucks don't move over into the right hanmd lane if your trying to merge out, they are simply trying to save as much petrol as they can cause they get worked so hard. any way i know i can get infront but since i'm on my L's i can only do 80.

a couple of times i have had to stop right at the end of the lane as a few big trucks fly by and the mini shakes from the rumble and the wind.

it is great fun then afterwards waiting for a gap then trying to fang with a 998 original never reconditioned mini.

sometimes i take the step and merge out infront and they are quik to change lanes and once i have then i get the fun of been pushed around my lane from the wind that comes of the fron of them.
over to the left then pulled back into the right. (i could fit under a few of them if they didn't have thier tool boxes there.)

This happens a lot in Sydney, but Sydney drivers as whole can't drive or refuse to obey road rules or purely because of laziness. This however never happened when I drove our old magna or the civic or golf , people are just inconsiderate. But this does happen though whatever you're driving i do agree but it just never happened to me. What I hate is when someone is in a left turning lane you're both at the set of lights your going straight then they accerate to get in front of you. I genrealy dont let them in if I can hepl it because I like every other Sydney driver is in a hurry we need to relax I know but this peeves me off, so I if possible don't let them in purely because their breaking the law but going stroaght from a turning ONLY lane.

I know I'm genralising but we all havce to agree it is the normal thing we see as Sydney drivers day in day out.

I have never had this problem... before I got into the mini I was driving a Hilux Surf with 33" tyres and 4" lift. something about seeing under the car and watching the tread of the mud tyre closeing in on your passenger door maybe makes them give way. but I do exactly the same in the mini and people tend to let me in. if comeone doesnt, I just speed up and get in there anyway.

whats sh*#s me is the people who overtake you in stoopid places. tonight after getting my dinner from HJ's I was driving really carefully to not let my drink fall over on the passenger seat. a new commodore was overtaking someone comeing towards me and was half in my lane (one and a half lanes each way, only a line in the middle) and some wank tried to overtake me on the inside while I was moveing over to let the commodore use half of my lane AND I GOT TOOTED!

I haven't had any problems in slip lanes with the mini as i adopt the "P-plate rule"...

P plate rule states that:
a) we don't care what anyone else thinks
b) we don't give each other bad names for our actions cos we are all bad
c) if there is someone giving way, take the advantage
d) if you are supposed to give way, don't do it, it'll only waste more time
e) you are the only IMPORTANT vehicle on the road
