Post subject:  1275 Clubman models?

A friend is trying to get their car correctly labelled on the register here. Going by the rules in the link below there is no definitive coding for a 1275GT, however the chassis number does confirm an 'E' in the second position, and a '2' in the fourth position (therefore a 1275cc clubman).

Were there any other 1275 clubmans other than the GT? Or does this prove that it's a GT by default?

It does also have the 2D in the third position but the notes in the link aren't clear what this means.

:? English built cars won't be the forte of most members here.

Looking at that article it is referring to Pommie Minis.

Only the 1275 LS... but this is here in Australia. You's got a whole completely different line of Clubman's/Mini's over your side of the Tasman.

OK, I don't know if this car was UK built, NZ assembled, or Aussie built.

Is there any information on decoding Asussie chassis numbers?

Does it have internal or external hinges ? As far as I know (but could be wrong) we were the only ones with external hinged clubbies ???? As for Aussie models with 1275 , there was the clubby GT , the 1275 LS and the last hundred or so basic model clubbies had 1275's and drum brakes , getting rid of excess parts I guess . I've come accross a couple of them now and heard of a few more , but still try and convince the RTA etc that mini's came out in Australia ex factory with 1275 and drum brakes ......

Internal hinge which makes it UK or at least UK kit built in NZ. The LS was an Aussie creation so since it's a 1275 they're happy that it's a GT. Job done.

Thanks

throw the cat amoung the pigeons there was also the 1275E form south africa and the GTS which both have internal hinges look similar to the GT here.
except the GTS had aussie type GT stripes on the bonnet and the E had 2 thick back coach lines down the side, the E came out with drum brakes (which can be changed easily) and the GTS came out with 8.4s now to really screww things up they also had the UK GT in south africa with the 10inch rims and 7.5disc brakes.

Whew now what was the question again?
