adjust your timing, and or the placement of the leads on the plugs

ie: swap 1 with 3 or 2 with 4

how do i adjust my timing :?

try the leads first then,
you turn the dizzy clockwise/anti clockwise, there is a bracket that holds the dizzy in place, slacken it off so you can turn it by hand.

clockwise is advance, anti clockwise retard, just try it about the place till it fires, then adjust it till it revs nicely

you should then get it tuned properly, it shouldnt take more than 30 mins which = about $30

it just doesnt sound like it even wants to start though :? im pretty sure the leads are in the correct position. number 1 at about 4 o clock, number 3 at about 1 o clock then 4, then 2.

so ur saying my moving the distributor forward or backward it could do the trick :?

swap the leads and see if that fixes it before you mess with the tuning :wink
1 with 3 and 2 with 4

I would have thought that number 1 would be at 1 o'clock. You're not 90 degrees out are you ?

new problem...

now when i start it up it gradually increases the rev's then it revs really high then higher, then dies down again - and keeps doing this.

i replaced the fuel filter and that hasnt helped. what should i do?

check to see if your fuel pump is pumping correctly and all the linkages on the carby are not sticking.

I had the same problem ages ago when I used the old carbies, check all your linkages and make sure everything is clean. I bought some of that carby and throttle body cleaner, but some degreaser will work just as well, that worked for me. Could be your choke cable getting caught on something?
