Yes, and if caught you can be fined and / or defected. The only car I ever had defected was my MX-5, I bought it without a front number plate bracket. No fine but got a defect that allowed me to drive the car around for a week or so and get it fixed and signed off by a pink slip inspector.

It is now legal to have no number plate in WA if you have stick on letters/numbers on the front of the car "european style"

Not sure about NSW Image

There are 3 between Mullumbimby and the QLD border - well signed though. The strips in the road are about 25m in front of the camera and flash unit.

I know - I got caught a couple of years ago(obviously the signs weren't big enough - the other half was driving...lol).

There are lines on the road on the other side of the road for the speed camera near the Sydney airport tunnel as well, but they only work heading south bound.
I remember forward facing cameras being discussed years ago but being dismissed due to the danger presented by the flash, hence why you see cameras on both sides of the road at places like the M4. But then again, I could be wrong 8) .

In NSW the mobile speed cameras can catch you from the front. I have the ticket to prove it. The ticket also proves that my Morris 1100 is capable of breaking the limit!

I got done in the same spot. Not by one of the fixed ones though. One and only time i ever sped. 78 in a 70 zone. Was a long weekend and the thieving pricks took two points and $120(ish). And ....AND to top it all off I didn't even get the damn photo! How much of a jip is that? In QLD you get the photo.

I think qld does this also as when I was at the miami shell on the gold coast there was a mondena 360(spider?)soft top
anyway he only had stickers and they looked like a metallic black sorta material.

so we could do old school worx style on the bonnet 8)
