| Post subject: | Door Hinge Resto? |
I'm having the car resprayed etc, and won't to fix the sagging door hinge's. There is a bit of play in them. What are my options? I know i can do exchange, but how much would i be looking at? Can i fix them myself, or would i be able to get them done locally/ Cheers Ryan! |

You can fix them yourself. All you need is new bushes and pins. One bush, and one pin for each hinge. Around $30 do to all 4 hinges i think ? |

Kazjim and I did mine about 2-3 weeks ago. We used - Hammer Drill Grinder (with wire wheel attachment) Used the grinder with the wire wheel to remove all paint from hinge as to get to the pin and for respraying. Punched out the pin using a hammer. We placed the hinge on a bit of wood with a hole under the pin, that way we could hammer the pin with a hole punch (or similar) without stuffing the hinge. [A vice would have been used if there had hav been one...] Used a drill to drill out the old bushes. Make sure the drill bit is slightly smaller than the hole or you will bugger the hinges. My bushes were well gone. Once you have gotten the pins and bushes out, hammer in the new bushes (be careful and dont stuff them by hammering to hard)...tap them in. Put the hinge together, and hammer in the pin. |

What he said ^^^ The pins are 1/4" diameter. I would add that if the hole in the middle part is well worn, a new replacement bush (5/16" O/D x 1/4" I/D) will not fix it. When I did mine I had to make thicker bronze bushes, I made the O/D 9.0mm. Don't go much bigger, or the hinge will be too weak.... |

or my way, i bought 2 6mm drill bits, pushed the old pin out with pin punch, then drilled thru with new drill bit and then taped it to the straight shaft part of the drill and cut it off flush in the hinge, u can do one side per drill. the steel in the drill bit is hardened so it takes along time to wear again |

Interesting idea there dodge. So the drilling didn't make the hole too big for the base of the same bit? I get you need to stop drilling as soon as it punches through? |
