His compressor is only a 2 or maybe 2.5HP D/Drive one too.

ok, Picking up a blasting attachment for my shed in a few days, got 99% of it all worked out, but what about the blasting media ? - I'm happy enough with sand, I'm not doing heaps of alloy work, and have done enough blasting to take it easy on large flat panels.... BUT Where do you gt the sand ? - I'm assuming beach sand is a HUGE nono due to the salt and wildly different types you can get, so where do you get clean, dry sand ? Would it be better to buy beads ? I'll be blasting in a relatively sealed area, so reclaimation wont be much of a hassle . . . . . . (breathing might though . . . . ) J |

Bunning's $5 a 10kilo bag. grab a couple of bags and recycle when complete. Hope you have a big compressor as when i use mine it was crap, didn't do anything except get sand everywhere. Cheers Aaron |

Doc, Mine is a very similar concept..... except IN the garage and sealed with Drop-sheets (I got a great deal at bunnings.. about 20c ea for HUGE plastic drop sheets) The compressor is a 2.5 Ddrive one from Super-crap, but free-air it was holding about 45PSI at full delivery....not too shabby ! Mostly for blasting panels, but also for the occasional "bit" that needs cleaning .... including chrome off bumpers.. that kind of thing .....

Sand is bad. It can cause nasty thing to happen to your lungs. Industry does not use sand for blasting. You can buy jugs of grit from Supercheap. Much better than sand. |

Yep, it's called silicosis. Bad news... Garnet, or glass beads are safer, but dearer. |

glass bead or steel shot is better than salty sand that inpregnates the steel with crap, also u will be finding particles of what ever u use for the next 30 yrs, bit like a broken window, |

Possums probably wont work well. They would get stuck in the nozzle. Matbe if you cut them into little pieces or put them in blender it may work. Mice are smaller they may work. |

That's a shame, my back yard over in Perth is made of A grade beach sand beneath a thin layer of turf.. It's endless and literally be recycled back to the lawn

you can get buckets of sandblasting grit at supa cheap , used it myself its black & gets everywhere but goes along way. |

So whats in the Super-Crap blasting Grit ? I'm going to guess its Carborundum or similar... Any ideas ? Does it leave a nice surface ? - ready to etch prime? J |
