Post subject:  door edge protectors

Hi all...

am looking around for a clear door protector for my GT. Not sure if they exist, that's all. My idea is a see-through strip that is made of soft plastic and it would slip on the outer edge but be almost invisible, if you know what I mean. Most things I've seen are ugly and dark coloured (mine is white) and will spoil the line. Because the doors swing out wide in that lovely 1970's basic way, it's frustrating always having to grab it before it hits something. Any ideas?

Can't help you directly with your question, but indirectly.......in my garage I have glued some firm sponge rubber onto the walls next to where the doors open. That way I can push the door open till it hits the foam rubber, and not worry in the slightest about damage. 8)

That may or may not help you.

Just a thought , how about running some of the chrome strip from the bottom seam vertically on the door edge , it might protect it from some hit's but unfortunately not a big hit , at least chrome will look a bit better than the big sticky out black with reflectors type protector the auto places sell . And of course anything is better than Marvin's suggestion .....

Yes, Marvin, the door stop idea is the way to GO! I think i'll just have to wait till I see what I have a vision of. I can't believe that my idea isn't out there somewhere in some auto shop. As you say, the ones on the market are just horrible. Black, silver with ugly refelctors...mmmm

As a stop gap, I wonder if white electrical tape would take any paint off? Could be a good temporary measure.

cheers,

minichick

If you want to stop the doors from swinging way open attach straps made from seat belt type material between the front edges of the door and the body get what I mean?

All mini's have the seat belt strap there..(or metal clip) if not then the hinges would break everytime you over opened it.

Post subject:  straps

mine has the strap...but it still can easily hit something when it opens up, especially on a slope. I could try and shorten the strap a bit. The other ideas are good for temp measures.

just been that ozicozi site. looks pretty good stuff. However, they seem to want to quote and do the whole car etc. The factory is 5 mins from where I live. I might drop in, see whatb they say about the door edges... ta for the pointer.

Try looking into the metal clips that replace the seat belt strap, they are more like modern doors in the way they open and have a couple of positions you can lock the door at.
