Not a great idea to paint drums, or calapers i am told looks nice before u drive the car for the first time, But also it restricts heat from exiting the drum so i am told... TRUE? |

if that was the case, why would they paint radiators? rust is one of the worst conductors of heat there is, do you think paint could be much worse? Trick is to use a paint that does not break down at the temperatures that brakes can operate at, and don't paint the working surfaces..... if you use that spray can stuff you get from the $2 shop, it is bound to break down and make a right mess.... michael |

I think the operating temp, can become very hot that even High temp paint will do nothing. |

They paint radiators because black is a good emmiter of heat as well as absorbing. I guess it would work for brake components as well. |

Yea, The etch primer on the drums in hind-sight, was a fopar. I'll take that off again and use a heat treated paint. I just got caught up in the painting moment. I still have to take them into work and machine them yet, so the lathe jaws will end up scratching them any way. Yea just a little hand held one. Bluepoint speed blaster is it's name. ![]() Came for free with the compressor. That did i mention cost $50 ![]() ![]() Converted the old birdcage into a blasting booth with the assistance of a tarp, and fettled away at it till i found a system that consisted of breathing, seeing and recycling sand. ![]() Still took most of the day to do half a front subframe and half a dozen parts. But a good portion of the day was spent figuring out what i was doing. Next weekend i'm aiming for, another half a front subframe and the rest of the front end componant's. That way i can move onto the rear for May. I really think i might struggle getting the van body in there though P.s. If ya think the birdcage blasting booth is a bit dodgey..... You should see Mk1 parts washer. ![]() |

Yea the colour is the trick though.... They are for a van that will be sugarcane (off white'ish) and stock looking. So i dont want them to stand out, but i want them to look nice if you look for them. hmmm |
