Hi, I want to get a really good electric pump for the mini, I had an SU pump (brand new, straight from Burlen in the UK) which has solid state triggering. After 1000miles it sh*t itself. I now have a solid state facet style pump (which puts out around 8psi) and a holley fuel pressure regulator (set to 3psi). It still seems to be pushing a bit too much fuel in. (yes brand new needles + seats, float height set correctly (nylon floats not brass)) What is the best electric fuel pump people have used (for twin 1.25" SUs)? Cheers matt |

There is quite a range of pumps. SU and facet seem to be the favourites again and again. My local mechanic swears by the old subaru brumby type as being indestructable and cheap from the wreckers. Now, for mini's - the su carby demands a fuel pressure of 2 lbs - anymore and it will flood as the pressure is greater than the flotation pressure of the float in the bowl. |

I bought a 1.5psi facet pump and I feel that the pressure is too high even for my dellorto 45... |

Most people get the Facet solid state pump. I've got the LP version and it had the wrong spring in it. It couldn't self-prime until I changed the spring. POS!! Facet pumps also have that annoying sound, especially if they are rigidly mounted. I have a Holley regulator but it is so badly made that the ports were threaded off line with the drillings. So I have to use heaps of thread tape to get the fittings to seal. Also a POS!!! Repco had a cheaper regulator but its minimum pressure was 3 psi. One of the best pumps around is the Pierburg brand. These come in LP versions and in Brisbane are supplied through Ashdowns. These are quieter than the Facet and last longer than other non-solid state pumps. Pierburg seem to be a competitor to Bosch in the original equipment supply to car manufacturers. I have the Ashdowns catalogue and the Pierburg catalogue but they are 1.5Mb each. "Carter 4070" - 4psi - 72Gallons/Hour - But I'm using it on a weber 45 - perfic match. [as recommended on the Weber site] Cheaper than SU pump even with import from the States and much much quieter than the F unit. [rubber "quite run" mount kit included with the pump] Cheers Dat |
