Hey all. Cheezel has been sitting in the garage for 7 weeks due to lack of time and possible head gasket prob! Was running 7 weeks ago now won't start! Replaced battery was totaly dead she will turn over but not kick! Have checked distributor, fuel lines, wiring, spark plugs, blah blah blah! Got a kick yesterday for a whole 3 seconds that was it! What to do????? Am now using a jump starter battery for extra kick

Provided nothing has changed ie plug leads etc - check that the plugs are not wet or fouled. Then use aerostart or start ya bastard down the carby - if its going to start, that will start it.

Check all the obvious things first , open the points manually with the ign on , is there a spark , check for spark at the plugs , is there fuel getting to the carb etc . Was there anything you weredoing to it before it was parked up ? Check the ign barrel , is there too much play in it , will it start if you hold the key "straight" into the barrel rather than just turning it and allowing any sag in the mechanism to pull the key down slightly ? Check the crimp on terminals that go onto the starter solenoid , they may be corroded and need a clean . Should be something simple if it was running before , but often the simple faults are the worst to find .... Good luck and let us know how it goes .

Actually , as Mike said , check plugs , after re-reading your post it could be plugs if you do have a head gsaket failure , though it would normally only knock a couple of cylinders , not all , but everythings worth checking at this stage till you can narrow it down a bit .

Sometimes you're better to get it towed than screw the engine. If there's only something minor wrong that will cause more damage, you could be better off paying $60 for a tow.

When we bought my mini, we were told she didn't start - got her started at home with some gentle screwdriver coaxing and isolated the problem - cylinder four seems to have a broken gudeon pin, and a blown head gasket.

Just a thought , you haven't had any mates around who may have switched 2 of your plug leads around as a joke ? Also check the distributer isn't loose and turning .
