Help/information required.

Does anyone have pictures of the reinforcements done by Crayford when they built their convertible Minis...

I have searched the net and have found heaps of pics of the car, but nothing about the actual work they have done to the reinforcing of the car. I am trying to work out the requirements for strengthening the floor of a Mini (for the new convertible) to ensure that its strong enough if there is no roof.

Please excuse the excruciatingly disgusting state of the shell but this is the way I got it. This is the essence of what Crayford did:



The inner sill is reinforced with a box section of 1/8" plate welded and bolted in place which in turn is welded and gusseted into a vertical reinforcement up the A post and tied into the dash pan. The sill reinforcements are bolted into the rear companion bin inside which is another piece of reinforcing welded onto the upright part of the inner sill. Across the rear seat pan is another 1/8" plate boxing in the area under the seat. On the other side of those bolts is a small channel section to spread the load throughout the floorpan and inner wing.

It's difficult to see those parts in this photo but that's what I have at the moment. I have to dig out the bits to make drawings so they can be remade. I'll post some better photographs and dimension drawings on the weekend. Stay tuned...

Here's a sketch of the reinforcement cross sections. The top left is the sill reinforcement, the bottom left is the A panel upright and the one on the right is the section welded inside the compaion bin. I'll post some pictures to go along with these when I get the things made up and I'm fitting them to the shell.

The panel boxing in under the seat pan is pretty straight forward, but you'll get a picture soon anyway.

i am fortunately only on the easy stuff now. I think that anyone can strip a car..!!

Lookin good Marcel, but i thouroughly expected that you`d do the job a bit better than that... thought you might have actually made up some form of press device to enable the panels to have that original rolled/pressed look rather than that non-original sharp folded look

ah well,,,just keepin an eye on you buddy, someone has to toe your bum now & then hey?

No offence intended here but--> anyone writing a book about minis 30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

You should put your heart & soul into everything you do.
