Post subject:  Mk II S?
Easy question for those in the know. . .

On a MkII S, should 'YG2S4' be stamped on the radiator shroud as well as the chassis number - or should only the chassis number be there?
This is for one of the pre-ADR MkII's which had no compliance plate. . .
I had been reliably told only the chassis number should be there but have since seen two MkII S's with both the number and the YG2S4 code stamped in.

Any help would be appreciated.

not that easy.... for an ADR model, yes, YG2S4 should be on the rad shroud, but pre ADR..... I bet there were variances - does it have something like M2 06 , or just the body number (less than maybe 1500?)



...yeah, I know M206 is Mk1, but there maybe a Mk2 version of the same

Well, the funny thing is, there is NOTHING at all stamped in the shroud.
But on the bulkhead it has 2/06 (no M), a scribbled out mess and then 1681 (see the pic below).
These numbers were hidden behind the original foil paint code stickers (you can see their outline on the chassis number pic) and were under the original paint, so I have no reason to believe they're not factory.
The rest of the car is definately MkII S (albeit with a MkI block) and there is no evidence that the car has had any panels or sections replaced.

I guess it's kind of a moot point, because we've bought the car anyway - but it would be nice to know.

Any ideas?

my early '69 MK1 (body 5152 out of 5400) had nothing on the rad shroud...
I don't think it had been replaced

But it's since been gooped over in really horrible thick white enamel and been left to sit in a shed for 16 years:

If M2/06 is MkI, what's MkII?

coulda been a friday car... same symptoms but extreme withdrawl

as far as I know, ADR MK2's didn't have an equiavalent to m206, just the full body number in the rad shroud

will you do the car in the original colours? it'll look teriffic in cadet blue / crystal white.... really clean & classic

16 years sitting in a shed is good - sitting under a tree woulda been bad

Yeah, I don't think it suffered too badly during it's storage - it was reasonably dry, I think. There's a bit of rust in the corners of the front floors and a bit in the boot floor - nothing too unusual. Oh, and a hole in the roof where some doofus stuck in an arial.
The plan is a 'proper' resto - that includes the cadet blue/crystal white combo. The Dunlop alloys might stay - dunno yet. If a cheap set of MkII steelies shows up, I'd prefer them in the long run - but at least the Dunlops are a 'period' modification.

Only one missing!! I'll add the S at some stage. .
We're looking at thinning the flock a bit, actually - once I have the Citroen D licenced (which would have happened already if it wasn't for the Cooper S coming along and soaking up all my money) the Skyline is history. A D for winter and a Moke for summer. . .sounds like motoring nirvana to me!

Would the curator do all the washing and polishing? :)
More storage space is the biggest concern at the moment - I'm just glad that most of them are small cars - if they were all the size of the old Citroen, I'd really be in trouble :shock:

The curator would mostly be concerned with the Service and Operability of the museum items. Some embezzlement may be involved. Still interested?
