Car runs beautifully, but once it reaches 100 it seems to not want to go any further. Is this carby adjustment?

what sort of engine are you running? i would think it would be more a timing issue, but could be fueling... if youve got an 850 it could be normal  ive never had an 850 engine so dont know

I did notice that it was a bit slack, so will adjust that tomorrow. Can carby adjustment cause this problem?

i'd say so, but wouldnt it run like poo the whole time?
it would have to be lean, and i think you'd notice that, and it would run crap when cold and wont start without the choke

Cant be that, cause everything else is perfect. Motor sounds perfect, so I will adjust the cable tomorrow and see what happens.

no... minis aren't supposed to rev past 3000rpm :P

(sorry mooman, try driving it at 100k's for a few minutes, then pull over to the side of the road and take a sparkplug out - I'd say it's running lean at the top end and leaning right out - just won't push any more air out of the way... that's if your timing is spot on)

well the mixture adjustment nut is underneath - where the tube from the float bowl goes into the jet - it moves the jet up and down - screw it down to make the mixture richer, up to make it leaner.

but first you need to decide whether it's rich or lean

what's your compression like.... ? what's the general condition of your motor? what diff ratio does it have?

maybe you just have a tired motor that doesn't have much grunt... pushing 650kg's through the air at 100kph really is a lot to ask

motor is a1, compressions excellent. Genuine 58,000 kms.

Turning the mixture nut under the carb will only effect the idle mixture after idle the mixture is controlled by the profile of the needle and the strength of the spring but as said 100k is not to far of the top speed of a 998, maybe only another 10 or 15 kilo to go so don't expect to much from it :D

i dont want to rain on ya parade there but a standard 998 will be lucky to get much past 125 ks on the flat for real, I dont really care what someones speedo says here are the facts A cooper S with 75 horspower would only pull about 155 Ks on the flat and a 998 with a whopping 42 horsepower is a good 25-30 ks less, horsepower gives top speed and touque gives accelaration and without the horsepower you ain't gettin anywhere near that speed unless your going down the mineshaft
