How long does this process take, and what exactly is invloved? i.e rpm/gentle drives etc etc

Also my car doesnt smoke on idle, or deaccelerating, nor driving gently through 1st,2nd,3rd,4th gears, but if i boot it, it smokes oil.

Hi, You will probably get heaps of different methods. The one I was told was to drive it gently for the 1st 1000 km. While you are driving in that first period, put your foot down hard at 80 and when you get to 100 take your foot off the accelerator till you drop back to 80 - do this process 6 or 7 times and the new rings will be bedded in. Be gentle with the motor for that forst 1000 km to let the new bearings bed in.

Now, for some-one else's method.......

Cheers mate

Lol - there are many methods.

Drive it as you would normally and dont baby it...

dont be tempted to start it "just to see what it sounds like" and no idle under 1500rpm for3-500km

Should be gooders...well works on ford motors..lol

Sounds like you might have a set of glazed rings and bore, what sort of new motor are we talking, is it a complete new pistons, rings, bearing , the whole she bang or is it the old new rings bearings and hope  look if its blowing smoke now how long is it since the engine was fitted and how many Ks has it got on it now, most engine reconditioners will tell you that when you first start her up to give her a couple of good revs to stop this happening and first drive to take it out to 4,500 grand in first and second on about 3/4 throttle and then drive it normally not over reving or labouring the car for about 500 Ks and then change the oil and drive normally :D

this is what I do for a recon/rebuilt engine. Using Penrite engine assembly lube to build the engine.

Use cheapest home brand oil (ie non friction modified)
Prime oil pump, fill oil filter.
spark plugs out crank it over to get oil pressure.
Fire it up and run it at fast idle 2000rpm for 20 minutes.
drop oil and filter.
Fill oil, use Penrite running in oil.
Drive the car without over revving it, and putting it under load for the first 100kms.
change oil & filter, Penrite running in oil again.
go on a long drive about 400-500kms at around 80km varieing the speed allot.
Drop oil and change filter.
Fill with Penrite HPR30
Drive as per normal for 1000kms.
Drop oil and change filter.
Fill with Penrite HPR30

Your engine is now ready to go.

i will try these methods,

thanks

except i have replaced my old block with another that looks like it had been honed with new rings and bores. Its only had probaby about almost 50km-100km on the block.

As i said, it doesnt smoke at idle or deacceleration, if i change gears at 2500rpm i can get away with no smoke, but if i wanted to drive it hard i will get smoke. i also use flashlube, and oil additive to reduce the smoke problem.
