If standard gauge, take wire off sender and put to earth and the gauge should go straight to hot.
If it does not go up to hot gauge is faulty.
Cheers Pete

P.S This is with key on.

Here at work we have a guage tester :D

If you know what the resistances are for particular readings, you hook up the tester, dial in the resistance and watch the guage.

I personally don't know the resistance specs but our instrument tech will.

Call 'Adelaide instrument services' 8132 0117
Ask to talk to Don and tell him Tom reccomended you call.
He will tell you what you need to know, and more than you need to know, he can talk the leg off an iron bath tub. Just DO NOT mention stationary engines, 250 max rpm gets him going.

If you have the guage out or can get it to me i can test it for you.

PM me if you need.
